Huo Jingyuan, his face dark, released Wen Ci’s lips and shouted toward the door, “You go take care of it. Then stay in the living room and do your homework. Don’t come upstairs again.”
Wen Yaozu asked, confused, “Why?”
“Since when are there so many ‘whys’?”
At that moment, Wen Ci actively wrapped her arms around the man’s neck. When her fingers touched the veins bulging on his neck, she chuckled softly and asked, “Why are you so angry?”
“I’m not,” Huo Jingyuan flatly denied.
Then, Huo Jingyuan felt Wen Ci’s legs hook around his waist. A lazy smile touched his lips as he listened to the rain falling outside, speaking unhurriedly, “Do you… want to?”
Because of Wen Yaozu’s presence, they had to hold back too much.
This timely rain, like the night before, meant they no longer had to restrain themselves. Even if the bedsprings creaked, it wouldn’t be heard. The sound of the heavy downpour was enough to cover everything.
“No,” Wen Ci’s reply was straightforward.
She just wanted a nap, not anything else. One shouldn’t indulge in lust during the day; such things were more suitable for the deep of night. Besides, Huo Jingyuan was a patient. It wasn’t appropriate to be too unrestrained.
“Then I’ll continue collecting interest.”
Huo Jingyuan looked down at her. In the dim room, Wen Ci’s eyes were clear and bright, like stars, her long eyelashes fluttering slightly. He kissed the corner of her eye again.
·
Half an hour later.
The heavy rain that had been pouring seconds ago stopped abruptly the next moment.
The two ended their lingering, ambiguous kiss. New love bites dotted the man’s neck. His heart felt like it was burning with fire, a vein throbbing at his temple.
“I’m going to wash my face.”
He meant what he said.
The curtains were drawn open again. Dark clouds gathered outside the window, the sky completely different from the previous bright sunshine, as if the temperature had dropped several degrees.
Wen Ci smoothed out the wrinkles on her clothes. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she felt a sense of relief. If she hadn’t been thinking about spending more time with Huo Jingyuan, she would have been taking the cart of clothes with Second Brother Su to sell in crowded areas. Even with bags covering the clothes, such heavy rain would have ruined the entire cartload.
After a long while, noticing Huo Jingyuan hadn’t come out, Wen Ci frowned. Huo Jingyuan hadn’t gotten what he wanted; he wouldn’t be taking a cold shower while washing his face, would he? A patient with serious injuries absolutely must not take cold showers.
Wen Ci felt a twinge of regret for not letting Huo Jingyuan have his way.
She walked to the bathroom door but didn’t hear the sound of shower water. Just as she was about to knock with her knuckles, she thought, We’re husband and wife. Is there any part of each other we haven’t seen? Why be so formal?
Wen Ci grabbed the handle and opened the door. The moment it opened, she heard the man’s low groan. She locked eyes with Huo Jingyuan in the bathroom for three seconds. Her gaze inadvertently drifted downward.
Wen Ci’s ears immediately turned red. “Sorry!” she said, then closed the door and returned to the bedside.
So embarrassing! Too embarrassing!
Huo Jingyuan was actually… in the bathroom…
He could have just asked for her help.
But then, Wen Ci thought about it carefully. It was pretty normal for a man to do that sort of thing.
She waited in the room a while longer, yawning repeatedly. Tilting her head, she wondered, Is he still not finished? Or is he too embarrassed to face me?
Forget it.
Wen Ci slipped under the thin blanket. The rain had caused the temperature to drop several degrees. She was sleepy and too tired to wait any longer for Huo Jingyuan to return.
·
Waking from her nap.
Wen Ci stretched lazily, refreshed from a good sleep. Her gaze fell on the empty spot beside her, and she wrinkled her nose slightly. Where did that dog man go?
She got up, washed her face, and went downstairs. Seeing Wen Yaozu still doing his test papers in the living room, she looked around as she walked. Approaching Wen Yaozu, she asked, “Where’s your brother-in-law?”
