Huo Jingyuan changed his clothes quickly. He closed the bedroom door and opened the inner room door, trying to appear as gentle as possible.
The men helping out in the yard saw Huo Jingyuan.
Like mice seeing a cat, they immediately stood at attention, their expressions extremely tense. They saluted and obediently greeted, “Commander Huo.”
Huo Jingyuan nodded slightly, “No need to be so formal.”
After a pause, Huo Jingyuan spoke again, “Is there anything I can help with?”
Zhu Jing asked, “Commander Huo, where’s Wen Ci?”
She had only heard from her husband how fierce and ruthless Huo Jingyuan could be, but since she wasn’t a soldier from the Northwest Military Region, she wasn’t particularly afraid of him.
“She just woke up. She’ll be out soon.”
Hearing this, the women lowered their heads and exchanged knowing smiles. The fact that the two of them were still in bed so late in the morning suggested that Commander Huo had put in quite the effort last night.
Huo Jingyuan’s face turned slightly red, “I still have a mission to attend to. I’ll take my leave now.”
After nearly forty hours of work, they had finally caught the infiltrators on the road, and he still needed to assist in interrogating which side they were from.
About ten minutes after Huo Jingyuan left, Wen Ci hurriedly walked out of the house. The tables and chairs in the yard were already set up, and a few children were sitting obediently in the pavilion.
Wen Ci called out, “Sister Jing.”
Xiang Qin teased, “Come sit and rest for a while.”
As fellow military wives, they were well aware of the men’s physical stamina, and Huo Jingyuan’s endurance was among the best in the entire army. Wen Ci must have been thoroughly exhausted last night.
“Huh?” Wen Ci blinked, not immediately understanding the meaning behind Xiang Qin’s words. She walked over and sat down, “I don’t need to rest. I can help out.”
Zhu Jing lowered her voice, “You must have been exhausted last night? Let me make you some soup to replenish your energy.”
In an instant, Wen Ci’s face visibly flushed. At another table sat the husbands of a few sisters. Shyly, she said, “That’s not the case.”
“What’s there to be shy about? Soldiers naturally have stronger desires, and after long periods of training, their stamina is exceptional. We women should take more care of ourselves.”
“Don’t let my husband’s honest appearance fool you. He’s anything but honest in bed.”
As she spoke, the group couldn’t help but laugh.
Seeing Wen Ci’s embarrassed expression, Zhu Jing reined in her laughter and said slowly, “Let’s not tease Wen Ci anymore. She’s newly married and still shy. We understand.”
“Should we still make the soup?” Xiang Qin asked.
“Make it.”
Wen Ci: “There’s no need.”
In the end, Wen Ci couldn’t win against the sisters. They wouldn’t even let her into the kitchen, so she could only help by keeping an eye on the children doing their homework. Among the recent review essays, the one written by Xiao Pihou was the best.
It was almost at the level of a middle school student.
Wen Ci thought of the few literary books on Huo Jingyuan’s bookshelf. She reached out and ruffled Xiao Pihou’s hair, smiling gently, “Xiao Pihou, if you can finish this week’s homework within an hour, I’ll lend you some excellent literary works to read.”
“What are literary works?”
Wen Ci thought for a moment, “They’re some really well-written pieces.”
Among the books on Huo Jingyuan’s shelf, there were a few whose titles she had only heard of, and she didn’t know their specific contents. But in any case, they were beneficial for life.
“Okay!” Xiao Pihou tightened his grip on his pencil. The weekend homework for elementary students wasn’t much. He usually liked to play while doing his homework.
But now, for the sake of the beautiful sister’s promised literary works.
He was determined to focus entirely on his homework.
Half an hour later, Xiao Pihou raised his homework book, a delighted smile on his face, “Beautiful sister, I’ve finished my homework!”
