Less than twenty minutes after Wen Ci and Huo Jingyuan arrived home, just after taking a sip of tea, they heard Su Wanqing’s voice.
“Grandma Liu, I’m here.”
Huo Jingyuan’s grandmother’s maiden name was Liu, with the given name Zi.
Immediately, Su Wanqing, wearing a pink dress, came running in. The moment she saw Wen Ci, her expression froze.
Although she didn’t live in the military family compound in the capital,
she had friends who were military family members. She had heard as soon as she arrived in the capital that Wen Ci was busy selling clothes everywhere lately.
Later, she heard that Huo Jingyuan was returning to Hangzhou.
She thought that Wen Ci would surely be busy continuing to sell clothes in the capital and would definitely not come to Hangzhou.
She didn’t expect her to be here.
Su Wanqing composed herself, walked up to Grandma Liu, and handed her the gift she brought, saying with a smile, “My grandmother asked me to give this to you.”
“You didn’t need to bring anything just for a visit.”
Then, Su Wanqing turned her gaze to Huo Jingyuan, her eyes full of concern. “Brother Jingyuan, I heard you were seriously injured. How are you? Are you okay now?”
Huo Jingyuan replied indifferently, “I’m fine.”
“Ah?” Su Wanqing blinked.
Wasn’t it said that Huo Jingyuan’s injury was very serious?
He needed to recuperate in the capital for at least a year, and because of this, she had a conflict with the Northwest Military District hospital and was directly dismissed from her position as a military doctor.
“Then when will you return to the Northwest?”
Huo Jingyuan said calmly, “What about you? Weren’t you just working as a doctor in the Northwest? How do you have time to come back to Hangzhou?”
Even though Su Wanqing was a doctor hired by the Northwest with great effort due to her overseas education, her vacation time was the same as that of ordinary doctors.
She needed to work a full year before getting vacation leave.
Su Wanqing bit her lower lip: “I’m on vacation.”
Huo Jingyuan directly exposed her: “You’ve only been employed for a few months. What vacation could you have?”
The Northwest Military District was poor, and the number of doctor positions was limited. To hire Su Wanqing, they had turned away several excellent doctors.
Now, after working only a short time, she resigned.
It embarrassed the Northwest Military District.
“I…” Su Wanqing hesitated, unable to speak. She had indeed been fired. Her eyes fell on Wen Ci. “What about her? She hasn’t worked for a full year either, has she?”
Wen Ci smiled faintly: “I am Jingyuan’s wife. Isn’t it normal for me to come back to take care of him after he was injured?”
The old lady in the host’s seat sensed something.
Some time ago, Su Wanqing’s grandmother had called her suggesting that the two families become in-laws, but Huo Jingyuan was already bound by a childhood engagement.
He himself had also said he didn’t like Su Wanqing.
So she hadn’t agreed and kept putting it off.
Seeing that she couldn’t hide it anymore, Su Wanqing simply spoke frankly: “So I resigned, so what? It’s not like you can’t resign from the Northwest Military District. The salary is low, and the conditions are so poor.”
A year’s salary from the Northwest Military District wasn’t even enough to buy one of the bags she purchased abroad.
Her purpose for staying in the Northwest Military District was Huo Jinguan.
Now, with Huo Jingyuan injured and not in the Northwest, why should she stay there? It would just waste her precious time.
“Hmph.”
Huo Jingyuan didn’t want to say harsh words in front of the elders. He then stood up from his chair and said calmly, “Grandma, A’Ci has never been to Hangzhou before. I’ll take her for a walk around West Lake first.”
“Okay, okay, okay.”
In front of everyone, Huo Jingyuan took the initiative to hold Wen Ci’s slender, pale wrist and walked out the main gate.
Once outside, the warm breeze blew from the lake, and the bright sunlight fell on the man’s profile. Wen Ci looked up at Huo Jingyuan.
She was mesmerized.
