Wen Ci rolled her eyes at him. “It takes at least several days by car to get from Hangzhou to the capital. Considering how old the elders are, you’re really something else.”
At worst, she could just make a few extra trips to the market in the afternoon.
She could sell all the goods in the warehouse in one go, go to Hangzhou to see his grandparents, and then meet with Xu Jinghe to settle the payment in person.
“Just teasing you,” Huo Jingyuan curled his lips.
He would never actually make his grandparents come to the capital. But his grandparents had booked them plane tickets. He added unhurriedly, “We’ll leave tomorrow or this afternoon and be back by the day after tomorrow at the latest.”
“By plane?”
Upon hearing this, Wen Yaozu raised his hand: “Can I go?”
“No,” Huo Jingyuan shook his head.
Flying required complete procedures, and minors needed to be accompanied by immediate family members. Wen Yaozu’s parents didn’t know he was in the capital.
So he couldn’t take the plane.
Wen Ci lowered her gaze. It would only be a few days; it wouldn’t cause much delay. “Then let’s take the plane this afternoon and spend more time with the elders.”
After Huo Jingyuan joined the army, he was stationed long-term in the Northwest Military District. His parents worked in confidential units, so the elders must miss their grandson very much.
“Okay, I’ll make the arrangements.”
With that, Huo Jingyuan turned and walked toward the landline phone in the living room.
Wen Ci took a five-yuan bill from her bag and handed it to Wen Yaozu. “Be good and stay at home. Don’t run around everywhere. We’ll be back in a few days.”
Wen Yaozu’s eyes lit up at the sight of the money: “No problem! I’ll definitely stay home and be good.”
That noon.
Huo Jingyuan went to the capital military district. Since he was leaving the capital, he needed permission from the Northwest Military District leadership and a re-examination result from the military hospital.
Once everything met the standards, he and Wen Ci immediately took a taxi to the capital airport. The sun was bright. Wen Ci looked at the small aircraft in front of her.
She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Is this small plane a direct flight to Hangzhou?”
Huo Jingyuan nodded: “Yes.”
In the 1980s, flight arrangements were based on the number of applicants. Large aircraft were used for more people, and small aircraft for fewer.
Wen Ci nodded.
The flight from the capital to Hangzhou took two hours. The weather in the south was somewhat humid. Being southern-born, Wen Ci could adapt to this climate.
Huo Jingyuan, however, seemed uncomfortable.
“What’s wrong?” Wen Ci asked.
“Not used to it.”
Hangzhou has always been known as paradise on earth. Huo Jingyuan took Wen Ci’s slender hand and casually curved his lips. “Shall we visit West Lake tonight?”
“Ah?” Then, Wen Ci understood and asked, “Does your family live near West Lake?”
“Not exactly.”
West Lake was where his grandmother preferred to live. Their actual old family home was located in a mountain village. They lived in the old home when taking refuge over a decade ago. Now, in peaceful times, they had moved back to reside near West Lake.
“Not exactly?” Wen Ci frowned.
Just as they stepped out of the airport, a middle-aged man with graying hair approached. Dressed in a Zhongshan suit and looking very spirited, he respectfully said, “Young Master Huo.”
“Uncle Wang, please don’t call me ‘young master.’”
Wen Ci slightly raised an eyebrow.
So it seemed Huo Jingyuan’s family used to be at the level of landlords. But hadn’t there been movements targeting such families over a decade ago? How did his family remain unaffected?
And Huo Jingyuan could even join the army.
Wait.
Wen Ci’s eyes gradually widened.
Could it be that Huo Jingyuan’s family was among the first major families to support the new era?
Huo Jingyuan introduced, “This is my wife, Wen Ci.”
Wen Ci nodded: “Hello, Uncle Wang.”
“Hello, Young Madam.”
Wen Ci: “…”
