Su Guilan sat on the sofa, completely unable to understand her husband’s words. She had just returned from outside the province today and asked, full of confusion, “What are you two talking about?”
Father Jiang snorted coldly, “If your sister knew how to complain, that would be one thing. At the main gate of the family compound, you still argued with her. Did you really think no one would talk?”
Now, Su Guilan understood.
Her son had quarreled with A’Ci at the entrance to the family compound.
“A’Ci is your biological sister. As her older brother, you need to learn to be tolerant. No matter how much you bicker, you can’t do it at the main gate of the family compound.”
Before, the Jiang family protected their daughter by not letting her show her face in public.
But now that she was visible, she often clashed with her brother. Anyone would start gossiping, and the military family compound was a place with many female comrades.
Gossip would eventually reach the ears of superiors.
Even though Father Jiang was a Minister, there were many with higher ranks than him. Some were retired but still held real power. Now that their daughter was Old Chief Huo’s granddaughter-in-law, she naturally attracted more attention.
“Mom, do you know she dragged a whole truckload of southern clothes to sell in the military compound and even struck a deal with the Logistics Department?”
“A’Ci is running her own business?”
Su Guilan’s eyes widened, then a pleased smile appeared on her face.
A’Ci was truly her biological daughter.
Even though she grew up in the countryside, she inherited her mother’s business acumen. Starting off by selling a whole truckload of clothes… wasn’t that a bit too ambitious for a beginning?
“How much is A’Ci selling the clothes for?”
Jiang Chen, still kneeling on the floor, tilted his head in confusion.
Was now really the time to be concerned about that?!
He was still kneeling!
“If I hear another word about you arguing with your sister, you can pack your bags and go be a soldier in some remote military district yourself. Out of sight, out of mind.”
Hearing this, Jiang Chen’s eyes bulged.
When he first enlisted, he didn’t want to serve in the Beijing military district because no matter how well he performed, it would be attributed to having a Minister for a father.
It was his father who had a heart-to-heart talk with him, persuading him to stay in the Beijing military district, where it was safe and he could live and eat at home.
But now, for the sake of a daughter he had never been close to, his father said such harsh words to him.
Jiang Chen’s throat moved as he swallowed hard. He slowly rose from the floor, his posture straight as a pine tree. Word by word, he said, “That won’t be necessary. I will submit a transfer request to another military district myself.”
Su Guilan saw the situation turning sour. There shouldn’t be lasting grudges between father and son. She tugged at her husband’s sleeve and said, “You say less. It’s just some friction between siblings, it’s perfectly normal.”
“Hmph.”
After speaking, Jiang Chen turned and left, slamming the door behind him without looking back.
“Old Jiang, why did you have to be so harsh? Don’t you know A’Chen has always had a complex about this? If you’ve driven our son away, see how you plan to win him back.” Su Guilan also voiced her displeasure.
“What do you know? What do you know?”
After this retort, Father Jiang didn’t want to explain further and returned to the army base.
Su Guilan sat on the sofa. Seeing the house empty and quiet, she began thinking about how A’Ci was running her business.
As her mother, she ought to pass on some experience. She then went out, planning to head to Old Master Huo’s courtyard.
Meanwhile…
Huo Jingyuan heard light, hurried footsteps. His ears twitched, confirming they were heading towards their home.
He immediately covered himself with the blanket, especially making sure the bite marks on his neck were completely hidden.
“Hmm?”
Wen Ci saw the man’s covering movement and raised an eyebrow teasingly, “Commander Huo won’t let people look anymore?”
