When Huo Jingyuan entered the house,
Wen Yaozu was slumped on the sofa watching TV. Hearing the sound of the door opening, he glanced toward the entrance.
He saw a tall man walk in.
His eyes immediately lit up. “You must be my brother-in-law!”
Although he had never seen his brother-in-law in person, he had heard all about his heroic deeds from various sources—how he had become a regiment commander at such a young age.
Hearing the word “brother-in-law,” Huo Jingyuan’s lips curved upward.
After giving Wen Yaozu’s figure a thorough once-over, he walked to the sofa and turned off the TV. Coolly, he said, “What time is it already, and you’re still watching TV? Don’t you have training early tomorrow morning?”
Wen Yaozu’s eyes widened.
Didn’t Brother-in-law promise that when he came back, he’d put in a good word to reduce his training?!
How could he go back on his word so quickly?
“Brother-in-law, how can you be like this?”
“What?” Huo Jingyuan asked.
The imposing military aura radiating from Huo Jingyuan made Wen Yaozu immediately shut his mouth. He lowered his head and said plaintively, “Didn’t you promise to put in a good word for me?!”
“Who knew you’d be this chubby.”
Huo Jingyuan wasn’t trying to discourage him. Back at the hospital, he had thought Wen Yaozu was just eating a lot because he was growing, and gaining some weight was normal.
After all, there’s an old saying: “A growing boy eats his father poor.”
But now that he had met Wen Yaozu in person, it was clear he really needed to lose weight.
Huo Jingyuan grabbed the collar of Wen Yaozu’s shirt with one hand and lifted slightly, finding it a bit strenuous. Squinting his eyes slightly, he said earnestly, “At your age, it’s the perfect time to lose weight. Otherwise, you might even have trouble finding a wife in the future.”
“Why?” Wen Yaozu asked.
Hearing this, Huo Jingyuan curled his lips and let out a low chuckle from his throat, teasing, “Boys going through puberty don’t look good when they’re fat.”
Huo Jingyuan patted Wen Yaozu’s shoulder. “Your sister means well for you. Work hard to lose weight.”
Wen Yaozu lifted his head, his gaze firm.
Starting tomorrow, he would definitely work hard to lose weight and not slack off anymore.
He’d focus on shedding the pounds first.
“Brother-in-law, then I’m off to sleep.”
“Go ahead.”
Seeing Wen Yaozu return to his room, Huo Jingyuan’s gaze shifted to the staircase leading to the second floor. He ascended the stairs very quietly. When he opened the master bedroom door,
he heard Wen Ci’s steady breathing.
The man tiptoed to the bedside. By the faint light coming through the doorway, he saw that the thin quilt covering Wen Ci had slipped down to her waist. He reached out and pulled it back up over her.
He knew that Wen Ci was sleeping so soundly because she was utterly exhausted.
Just as he was about to head to the next room, his large, sturdy hand was grasped by a slender, warm one. A drowsy voice sounded: “Huo Jingyuan?”
“It’s me,” Huo Jingyuan replied.
He turned back to look at Wen Ci, who had already opened her eyes on the bed. Perhaps because she had just woken up, her almond-shaped eyes shimmered with a captivating light.
Huo Jingyuan’s deep, ink-like eyes stared intently at Wen Ci. Her loose sleepwear had slipped, revealing a glimpse of fair skin.
“You’re awake.”
Wen Ci raised her hand and rubbed her eyes. “How long have I been sleeping?”
“A few hours.”
Wen Ci spread her arms open and said coquettishly, “I want a hug.”
“Mm.”
In the next moment, Wen Ci was enveloped in a gentle embrace. The man still carried a faint scent of disinfectant. Huo Jingyuan coaxed her softly in a tender voice:
“With me here to provide for you, you don’t need to work so hard running a business.”
