In the capital military district, at the Jiang family home.
Jiang Ye looked up at the courtyard, her eyes filled with anticipation. After spending so many days in the northwest, her skin had worsened. When she had sneaked out, she hadn’t brought any of her cosmetics from home.
In the living room, Su Guilan sat on the sofa with a troubled expression, pondering how she could mend her relationship with her daughter, A’Ci.
At that moment, the door to the room was pushed open.
Jiang Ye walked in with a bright smile. “Mom, I’m back from studying at my classmate’s house.”
As she spoke, she spread her arms and walked toward the sofa, pouting and acting coquettishly. “I missed you so much, Mom, during the days I was studying at Qiqi’s house~”
Hearing this, Su Guilan shot her a cold glance, her dark, bright eyes fixed on Jiang Ye as she sneered, “Were you really studying, or were you in the northwest? You know the truth.”
Jiang Ye’s heart skipped a beat.
Seeing the cold expression on her mother’s face, a flash of murderous intent crossed her eyes, but she quickly forced a bitter smile and feigned innocence. “Mom, what are you talking about? If you don’t believe me, you can call Qiqi and ask.”
“Do I even need to ask? The northwest already called me!”
The sudden shout made Jiang Ye tremble. A tear rolled down her cheek, her eyes red and pitiful as she said in a soft, fragile voice, “I’m sorry, Mom.”
“Don’t call me Mom.” Su Guilan straightened up, her eyes lowering as she spoke in a stern tone. “Since you won’t listen to me, from now on, you’ll have to support yourself. The apartment near your school is yours. Do whatever you want with it—sell it or keep it, it’s up to you.”
Jiang Ye’s eyes widened in shock.
She stared at her mother on the sofa in disbelief.
“You’re cutting ties with me?”
“You’re an adult now. You can take care of yourself.”
“But I’m still in my third year of high school.”
Su Guilan let out a cold laugh and shook her head. “You still remember you’re in high school? Then why did you go to the northwest? Just to break up A’Ci and her husband?”
At this, Jiang Ye suddenly laughed.
In the end, it was all about Wen Ci!
An adopted daughter could never compare to a biological daughter.
She didn’t say anything, her eyes welling up with tears as she left the Jiang family. Her silence was to leave herself a way out. As she stepped out of the Jiang home, a glint of malice flashed in her eyes.
In this life, the Jiang family would only serve as her stepping stone!
Meanwhile, Jiang Chen was leaning on the sofa watching TV. Although he had only been assigned a one-bedroom apartment, it was fully furnished with appliances and furniture.
Suddenly, a figure flashed past the hallway outside his room.
Jiang Chen’s eyelids drooped as he stood up from the sofa. He thought he had seen Xiao Ye, but then he shook his head and muttered to himself, “I must be mistaken. Xiao Ye is still in the northwest military district.”
They had spoken on the phone just a few days ago.
Xiao Ye had even mentioned that she was taking her students to perform at the military art tour.
Jiang Chen didn’t think much of it and continued watching TV.
A few minutes later, he faintly heard the sound of a girl sobbing. He stood up from the sofa and walked to the door, but there was no one in the hallway.
Yet the sobbing continued.
Jiang Chen’s room was near the staircase. He leaned out and looked toward the stairwell, where a girl was sitting on the steps, her face buried in her knees as she cried.
His gaze fell on the back of the girl’s head, and he frowned, calling out tentatively, “Xiao Ye? Is that you? Are you back?”
Jiang Ye looked up, her eyes red and tears streaming down her face. She spoke in a soft, pitiful voice, “Brother.”
Seeing this, Jiang Chen quickly climbed the stairs to comfort her. “Why are you back?”
“Mom doesn’t want me anymore.”
