Inside, it was filled with the love of parents for their children.
This was the second time taking a plane.
But Xingxing was still curious.
A few hours later, the plane landed smoothly at Haicheng Airport.
“Mom, are we in Haicheng to see Uncle, Aunt, and Brother Shitou?” Yueyue asked.
“Of course.”
“Do they know we’re coming?”
“They do. I’m sure your uncle and his family are already waiting for us at the airport,” Gu Jianing replied.
Her older brother had called earlier to ask about their arrival time and said he would come to pick them up.
Sheng Zexi pushed the luggage cart piled high with bags, while Gu Jianing carried Tuantuan. Xingxing and Yueyue held onto the hem of their mother’s clothes to avoid getting lost.
“Ningning, over here, over here~”
Just as Gu Jianing was scanning the crowd for her brother, she heard a familiar voice calling out.
She turned toward the sound and spotted two familiar figures not far away—none other than her older brother and sister-in-law.
Delighted, Gu Jianing said, “Big Brother and Sister-in-Law are over there. Let’s go.”
Gu Yunting and Yang Manman hurried over to them as well.
Gu Yunting helped Sheng Zexi with the luggage, while Yang Manman took Tuantuan from Gu Jianing’s arms.
Looking down, she exclaimed, “Oh, another beautiful little one! He’s asleep?”
Gu Jianing nodded with a smile. “Yes, he was fussy last night and didn’t get enough sleep. Once we got on the plane, he dozed off and hasn’t woken up yet.”
Gu Jianing studied her sister-in-law.
It had been a long time since she last saw Yang Manman.
Though her appearance hadn’t changed much, her aura was completely different now.
Her clothes no longer carried the rustic style of their rural days—instead, they were fashionable.
Her hair was now permed, and she wore light makeup.
She exuded a quiet, elegant, and scholarly vibe.
One might mistake her for someone from a family of intellectuals.
“Sister-in-law, you’ve become even more beautiful,” Gu Jianing praised, teasing her brother, “Big Brother, you’d better stay on your toes.”
This made Gu Yunting and Yang Manman burst into laughter.
Gu Yunting chimed in, “Absolutely! Your sister-in-law is amazing these days. You have no idea—she handles a lot of the business negotiations for me now. She’s my greatest support. Marrying Manman is the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Yang Manman blushed at her husband’s words and shot him a playful glare.
Gu Jianing thought: Wow, it seems Big Brother and Sister-in-Law’s relationship has gotten even better. That’s wonderful.
“Let’s go, get in the car.”
When they reached the airport exit, they saw a car waiting—a Santana.
Gu Jianing was slightly surprised. “Big Brother, Sister-in-Law, did you buy this car?”
“Yes, but it’s second-hand. Sometimes it’s necessary for business.”
“Even second-hand, it couldn’t have been cheap. But having a car does make things much more convenient,” Gu Jianing remarked.
They got into the car.
Gu Yunting took the wheel and began sharing with Gu Jianing and the others about his experiences since arriving in Haicheng.
Back then, his wife, Yang Manman, had been admitted to Haicheng University. Half a year later, she asked him to come to Haicheng to seek new opportunities.
Gu Yunting didn’t hesitate much, even though it meant resigning from his position as a clerk at the steel factory.
But to him, a job was just a job—he could always find another one. What mattered more was staying by his wife’s side.
It wasn’t like what the villagers whispered—that he was afraid his wife would change after going to university.
He knew Manman’s character well.
To Gu Yunting, family was the most important thing in life.
And if he had to rank them, his wife stood at the very top.
So, being with her was a priority.
That’s why, after listening to Ningning’s advice back then, he resolutely quit his job and moved to Haicheng.
As for their children, they temporarily left them with his parents in the countryside.
“…When I first came to Haicheng, it was really tough.” Even now, Gu Yunting couldn’t help but sigh when recalling that period.
At the time, they rented a tiny place to live.
Being new to the city, he had no connections and no idea what to do.
Yang Manman also sighed at the memory. “Back then, your brother heard that construction work paid well and offered daily wages, so he wanted to try it.”
“I didn’t really agree—construction work is exhausting.”
“But I couldn’t stop him. He went anyway.”
At first, Gu Yunting just wanted to earn some quick money.
But as he worked, he started learning everything he could on the job.
No matter which role or which skilled worker was willing to teach him, he absorbed every bit of knowledge.
“…I’ve always believed that anything you learn becomes your own—something you can use to your advantage.”
And Gu Yunting had a strong aptitude for learning and hands-on work.
He was also naturally good at handling people.
Though he wasn’t as academically brilliant as his younger brother, who had the brains to get into a top-tier university like Beijing University,
he was no slouch either.
After half a year, he had picked up a considerable amount of knowledge on construction sites.
“…And then, your brother actually got bold enough to think about leading his own team to take on projects!” Yang Manman said.
“That’s how I saw it. Working for someone else means you’re always stuck with a fixed wage, but being your own boss? That’s a whole different story.”
“I believe our country is inevitably heading toward rapid development.”
“And as cities grow more crowded, housing is going to become a major issue.”
“If there aren’t enough houses, they’ll have to build more.”
“I think the construction industry has huge potential—there’s money to be made here.” Gu Yunting spoke with confidence.
Gu Jianing raised an eyebrow. Wow, my brother’s got a sharp mind!
Is he aiming to become a contractor or a construction tycoon in the future?
As someone who had been reborn, Gu Jianing knew this was indeed a highly lucrative field in the years to come.
And her brother’s analysis was spot-on.
However, she had underestimated his ambitions.
“…Right now, I’m building houses for others.”
“But slowly, once I save up enough, I’ll buy land and build my own houses. Then I can rent them out—your sister-in-law and I can become landlords!” Gu Yunting laughed heartily at his own grand vision.
Gu Jianing: !!! Damn, Big Brother! So you’re not just aiming to be a contractor or a builder—you’re getting into real estate! Impressive, very impressive!
“Big Brother, that’s a solid plan. I fully support you.” Gu Jianing knew all too well that in the near future, real estate would be like picking money off the ground.
Right now, everything was still in its early stages.
Her brother already had the vision and the foundational skills in construction.
So, his dreams for the future were entirely achievable.
