What’s going on?
Could Xingxing and Yueyue be in this hospital?
Somewhere close to her?
Before Gu Jianing could make sense of it, two voices overlapped in the next moment.
“Mommy.”
Gu Jianing’s heart leaped. She looked up and saw her two little darlings standing at the doorway of the ward, their eyes red as they gazed at her.
“Xingxing! Yueyue!”
“Mommy~”
Xingxing and Yueyue hurried over, clustering around Gu Jianing’s bedside.
“Mommy, how are you feeling?”
“Mommy, did you have the baby yet?”
It wasn’t until Gu Jianing touched their faces and felt their warmth that everything felt real to her.
“Yes, Mommy gave birth to a little brother for you both.”
“Wait, how did you two end up here? And…”
Gu Jianing’s gaze shifted to Lin Shu, who stood behind the children. “Why is she with you?”
“Mommy, that Auntie Zhou is a bad person!” Yueyue immediately tattled.
Through Yueyue’s account, Gu Jianing learned the full story.
Turns out, the group had first tricked Sister-in-law Zhao into leaving.
That Auntie Zhou had gone to the military base. Taking advantage of the fact that almost all personnel were deployed due to the strong typhoon, she used her connection as someone introduced by Sheng Zexi to gain entry.
Then, she lied that Gu Jianing was having a difficult labor to lure Xingxing and Yueyue out.
Sister-in-law Zhao’s son, Goudan, worried about Xingxing and Yueyue, followed them out.
Unexpectedly, Xingxing and Yueyue soon realized something was wrong.
But the criminals were so ruthless—not only did they drug the children, they even threw them into the sea.
Later, Lin Shu, who had been secretly waiting by the shore to “rescue her daughter,” saw what happened and saved them.
Yueyue leaned close to Gu Jianing and whispered that they hadn’t actually been drugged, and when they were thrown into the sea, the Water-Repelling Pearl had protected them.
Gu Jianing stroked Yueyue’s head, silently grateful that she had given Xingxing and Yueyue those life-saving items.
Whether it was the All-Poison Immunity Pill or the Water-Repelling Pearl, each had played a crucial role.
If even one of them had failed, Xingxing and Yueyue might not have survived.
For example, without the All-Poison Immunity Pill, they would have been drugged unconscious.
Then thrown into the sea.
Though the Water-Repelling Pearl would have kept them safe for a while, they wouldn’t have been able to save Goudan in time.
And without the Water-Repelling Pearl…
How could two toddlers barely over two years old survive in such rough waters?
They would have drowned long ago, let alone saved Goudan.
“Where’s Goudan now?” Gu Jianing asked.
“Daddy took Brother Goudan to see the doctor,” Yueyue said.
The moment those words left her mouth, Sheng Zexi appeared at the doorway.
The second Gu Jianing saw him, she felt an immediate sense of relief.
“Brother Zexi…”
Sheng Zexi hurried over and immediately grasped Gu Jianing’s hand.
“I’ve already taken Goudan to the doctor. They said he inhaled some of the sedative, but an IV will clear it up. Other than that, he’s fine.”
“Earlier, I ran into Sister-in-law Zhao—she’s gone to take care of Goudan now.”
Gu Jianing let out a relieved sigh. “That’s good.”
“Ningning, how are you feeling now?”
“I’m fine. By the way, you haven’t seen the baby yet, have you…?”
Gu Jianing couldn’t help but laugh. Whether it was Sheng Zexi or Xingxing and Yueyue, they had all rushed to check on her first, completely overlooking the newborn.
Soon, Sheng Zexi wheeled over the small crib beside them.
Lying inside, fast asleep, was a tiny baby.
Sheng Zexi knew this was the third child Ningning had given him.
The little one, full from feeding, was sound asleep, undisturbed even by the voices around him.
“Mommy, is this our brother?” Xingxing and Yueyue leaned in curiously.
“Yes, this is your brother.” Gu Jianing’s gaze softened as she looked at the baby.
“He’s so small,” Yueyue remarked, stretching out her hand to measure the baby’s size against her own tiny fingers.
“Newborns are always small. He needs milk and sleep, and when he grows up a bit, he’ll start eating like you do. Then he’ll slowly get bigger.”
Gu Jianing explained gently, her voice warm.
“Oh, Ningning, have you thought of a name for him yet?” Sheng Zexi asked.
Gu Jianing pondered for a moment. “How about ‘Tuantuan’ for his nickname?”
Tuantuanyuanyuan—”reunion and togetherness”—had always been her deepest wish.
“As for his formal name, I’ll leave that to you, his father.”
“Alright, I’ll take some time to think of a good name.”
“Tuantuan, Tuantuan… Little brother, your name is Tuantuan now!” Yueyue immediately shared the name with her baby brother, her excitement undimmed even though she knew he was fast asleep.
Gu Jianing looked at Sheng Zexi, at Xingxing and Yueyue, and then at Tuantuan in the crib.
Reunion—a family whole, safe and together. That was all she had ever hoped for.
Now, with her husband and children by her side, Gu Jianing felt nothing but overwhelming happiness.
Perhaps it was seeing Sheng Zexi return, or perhaps it was knowing the children were safe, but the exhaustion she had been holding back since giving birth finally caught up with her.
As drowsiness washed over her, her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep mid-sentence.
“Mommy’s asleep…” Xingxing, who had been watching her closely, immediately signaled Yueyue to lower her voice.
Yueyue fell silent, not wanting to disturb her mother.
Just then, the doctor entered.
Only then did Sheng Zexi and the children realize that Gu Jianing hadn’t rested at all since giving birth.
“Mommy must have been worried about us,” Xingxing and Yueyue murmured, their eyes filled with guilt as they looked at her.
Yueyue leaned in, gently nuzzling her cheek against her mother’s, her touch tender and affectionate.
Sheng Zexi patted their heads. “Then you’ll have to be extra good from now on, so Mommy and Daddy don’t have to worry.”
“And you must always take care of your mother, understand?”
Xingxing and Yueyue nodded in unison. “We know, Daddy.”
“Let your mother and brother rest. Come with me over here.”
Sheng Zexi led the children to a corner and had them recount the incident in detail.
Xingxing and Yueyue held nothing back, repeating everything they had experienced.
By the time they finished, Sheng Zexi’s brow was furrowed.
He had assumed it was the work of a single person, but it turned out to be an entire group.
The question was—were they enemy operatives, or…?
“Daddy, that Auntie Zhou said they did this because you took something from them,” Xingxing suddenly said, remembering something.
