“Not only is it nonsense, but it’s also alarmist.”
“You have no idea how scared I was when I heard a severe typhoon was coming.”
“Ugh, how could Dr. Gu do this? Instead of being a proper doctor, she’s dabbling in weather forecasting and spouting nonsense.”
“Yeah, it’s really not right. A severe typhoon—that’s terrifying!”
“I admit Dr. Gu is amazing in medical skills, but in other areas…” The military wife shook her head.
Soon, rumors like these spread rapidly throughout the military base.
Everyone knew that Dr. Gu, the wife of Regiment Commander Sheng, was fearmongering, spreading claims about an incoming severe typhoon.
People began criticizing Gu Jianing, accusing her of being unethical.
Meanwhile, Xingxing and Yueyue were on their way home from daycare.
Previously, Leiting and the others had been responsible for picking them up.
But now that Leiting and his team had gone to the military dog training base, and with Gu Jianing about to give birth, Sheng Zexi—though on leave—still had occasional duties to attend to, so Xingxing and Yueyue were walking home alone these days.
On their way back, they suddenly overheard people gossiping about their mother.
Though they didn’t fully understand the meaning behind the words, they knew these people were saying bad things about their mom.
Xingxing and Yueyue couldn’t tolerate it.
Yueyue, being hot-tempered and impulsive, immediately stepped forward, hands on her hips, and declared, “You! Stop saying bad things about my mom! My mom would never talk nonsense!”
Xingxing, usually reserved, also nodded firmly. “Yes, our mom never exaggerates. If she says a severe typhoon is coming, then it’s definitely coming.”
The military wives hadn’t expected their gossip to be overheard by Gu Jianing and Sheng Zexi’s two little kids—much less for them to confront them directly.
Looking at the two small children, one of the wives scoffed, “What do you two brats know? Do you think whatever your mom says just magically happens? Hahaha, is she some kind of fairy or something?”
Yueyue was furious. “My mom is a fairy!”
Xingxing nodded in agreement.
This sent all the military wives into fits of laughter.
“Listen to them! They actually think their mom is a fairy! Well, I’m the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother then! Hahaha!”
“Brother… they’re so mean. How can they say bad things about Mom and laugh at us?” Yueyue’s eyes welled up with tears.
Xingxing held her hand. “It’s okay. They’re the ones with nasty mouths for talking about Mom like that.”
“Let’s go tell Dad. He’ll know what to do.”
“Mm.”
In Xingxing and Yueyue’s eyes, their mother, Gu Jianing, was a fairy.
Because they knew she could understand what Amber and the other dogs said.
Whose mom could understand dog language?
So their mom was special.
Especially for XIngxing.
After the incident with the drug cartel, he knew the power of the protective charm—he had experienced it firsthand.
Without that charm, he and Leiting would have been in grave danger, possibly even lost their lives.
And clever Xingxing understood that not just any mom could produce such a charm.
Both his mom and dad had told them never to speak about the charm to anyone.
Xingxing and Yueyue had promised.
So, in their hearts, a mom who could do such magical things had to be a fairy.
To them, their mom was their fairy mother—a secret belief they both held dearly.
So, what their fairy mom said must be true.
Those who spoke ill of their mother and laughed at them were just plain mean.
Yueyue clenched her little fists, fuming.
Xingxing, however, remained calm and tugged his sister’s hand to lead her home. “Yueyue, we’re just kids. Let’s not stoop to their level.”
“We’ll go back and tell Mom and Dad. They’ll handle it.”
From past experience, Xingxing knew that at their age, they shouldn’t confront things head-on.
Sometimes, it was better to step back and seek their parents’ help.
There was no shame in children asking their parents for support.
“Come on, let’s go home.”
With that, Xingxing ignored the women and pulled Yueyue away.
When the siblings arrived home, both Gu Jianing and Sheng Zexi were there.
They had been discussing the typhoon situation.
Looking up, they noticed the two little ones seemed upset—especially Yueyue, whose eyes were red.
“Yueyue, what’s wrong? Did someone bully you?” Gu Jianing pulled Yueyue into her arms, her voice gentle.
“Mom, people were saying bad things about you!” Yueyue blurted out.
Sheng Zexi frowned and turned to the silent Xingxing. “What happened?”
Xingxing tightened his fists. “Some people said Mom was talking nonsense…”
He then recounted what they had overheard on their way home.
“Mom, you’re not talking nonsense! If you say the typhoon is coming, then it is coming!” Yueyue nestled against her mother.
Gu Jianing and Sheng Zexi exchanged a glance and fell silent.
Sheng Zexi’s expression darkened. “Seems someone’s stirring trouble—and targeting us.”
“Zhao Weiguo and Zhao Hongxing wouldn’t have spread this carelessly. Someone else must have overheard and is using it to cause trouble,” Sheng Zexi speculated.
He knew Zhao Weiguo and Zhao Hongxing well enough—they wouldn’t recklessly share unverified information.
So, it had to be someone else.
Almost immediately, Sheng Zexi suspected Lin Chushi.
Was it him?
Whether it was or not, someone was deliberately spreading these rumors.
Sheng Zexi squeezed Gu Jianing’s hand. “Don’t worry. Whoever’s behind this will eventually show themselves.”
But the problem was…
The typhoon still showed no signs of arriving.
It wasn’t that Sheng Zexi doubted Gu Jianing’s abilities—but the later the typhoon was detected, the less time they’d have to prepare.
That worried him.
Meanwhile, even Zhao Hongxing had heard the rumors.
He frowned, wondering who had leaked the information.
But…
After checking the monitoring equipment again, there was still no sign of any typhoon.
The higher-ups had also caught wind of the gossip.
Commander Lu even summoned Sheng Zexi to discuss the matter.
“I trust Dr. Gu doesn’t make baseless claims. Keep monitoring the typhoon situation and update me immediately if anything changes.”
Commander Lu had received several complaints demanding disciplinary action against Gu Jianing and Sheng Zexi for spreading “false typhoon warnings.”
But he had suppressed them all for now.
Then, just as Zhao Hongxing was about to end his shift at the meteorological department—
The monitoring equipment suddenly detected a change.
