“Killing without tormenting…”
Yu Huaiting casually tossed the paper-bound book back into the wooden box with a dull thud.
Fu Songcheng didn’t answer, but the yin energy radiating from the cloth doll had grown heavier than before.
Following the marks on the map, the two headed toward the executioner’s residence far from the village core.
Silence the whole way.
Even someone as lively as Yu Huaiting had no mood to joke with Fu Songcheng.
The two went quietly to find the executioner.
As it happened, the executioner was looking for them too.
The two parties met at the riverbank.
Yu Huaiting’s conspicuous priest attire and the executioner’s distinctive clothing let each quickly confirm the other’s identity.
Yu Huaiting showed no superfluous emotion. “Why are you delaying the sacrifice?”
The executioner stared at Yu Huaiting for a few seconds, then suddenly split his mouth open in a bone-chilling, sinister laugh.
He stuck out his tongue and licked his cracked lips. “Can’t wait?”
He suddenly gripped the boning knife in his hand, its tip pointing straight at Yu Huaiting, his voice abruptly rising, carrying thick killing intent: “Then we can start right now!”
Before the words faded, the executioner’s muscles instantly tensed, and his whole body, like an arrow loosed from a string, came lunging straight at Yu Huaiting with a gust of bloody wind.
“Stop!”
Fu Songcheng’s cool, urgent voice exploded in Yu Huaiting’s mind. “Don’t fight him! I haven’t had time to destroy the formation Lu Xiao set up by the river—retreat!”
Yu Huaiting’s eyes sharpened, and he forcibly suppressed the urge to meet the attack.
He surged power into his feet, sliding back several meters, dodging the executioner’s lethal slash.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Yu Huaiting turned and left.
“Trying to leave?”
The executioner’s strike missed, the viciousness in his eyes deepening.
He kicked off the ground hard, his speed actually increasing, and blocked Yu Huaiting’s retreat with a horizontal knife.
The executioner tilted his head slightly, his gaze coldly sweeping over Yu Huaiting’s face, his tone full of mockery and provocation. “You came to hurry me into the sacrifice, and now that I’m going along with it, you want to leave? Can’t leave, can you.”
Yu Huaiting stopped and looked coldly at the boning knife barred before him.
He sighed, and his defined fingers slowly emerged from the wide sleeve, flexing his wrist once.
“You know,” Yu Huaiting’s eyes turned extremely dangerous in an instant, “the last person who dared tell me how to do things and block my way…”
He snapped his eyes up, killing intent bursting in his pupils. “Is already dead.”
The instant the words fell, Yu Huaiting moved.
The greatsword slammed viciously toward the executioner’s face with a howl of torn air.
The executioner sneered, neither dodging nor avoiding. He backhanded the boning knife upward, aiming straight for Yu Huaiting’s wrist.
Had that knife landed, Yu Huaiting’s wrist tendons would absolutely have snapped instantly.
Yu Huaiting reacted extremely fast. He flipped his arm, not only avoiding the blade but driving his elbow hard into the executioner’s chest.
Bang!
A muffled impact.
The executioner grunted, his body staggering back two steps—but the madness in his eyes only intensified.
As if he felt no pain, the instant he steadied himself he swung his blade and lunged again.
The two instantly tangled in battle.
Fu Songcheng: Fighting again?
Didn’t this executioner know the sacrifice was decided by the priest? He’d come straight at Yu Huaiting to cut him down.
Executioner hits people—executioner bad.
Yu Huaiting fights back—Yu Huaiting good.
Fu Songcheng grumbled inwardly but didn’t stay idle.
Black smoke spilled from the cloth doll, trying to drill into the executioner’s seven orifices.
He used the Evil God’s mental oppression to continuously create auditory hallucinations and terror in the executioner’s mind.
The executioner’s movements did briefly stall—his brows twisted in pain, the force of his blade swings weakening.
Yu Huaiting seized the flaw, kicking the player hard in the chest and sending him flying, crashing heavily into the earthen wall beside them.
“Cough…”
The executioner spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, his gaze growing even fiercer.
He gritted his teeth hard—the intense pain suppressed Fu Songcheng’s mental interference.
Just then, Fu Songcheng’s brows knitted, and he hurriedly told Yu Huaiting, “Someone’s approaching fast! On the left!”
Yu Huaiting’s heart jolted. He whipped his head around.
A slender yet exceptionally agile figure darted out from the woods not far away, landing steadily in the courtyard.
The newcomer had a delicate face but eyes hard as iron, gripping a short sword—it was Lu Xiao.
“The sacrifice?”
Yu Huaiting narrowed his eyes.
Yet Lu Xiao glanced at Yu Huaiting, her gaze landing on his conspicuous priest robe, then looked at the executioner who’d just gotten up from the ground.
Without any verbal exchange, she suddenly turned her blade and, swift as lightning, thrust straight at Yu Huaiting!
Same faction as the executioner!
Yu Huaiting’s pupils contracted sharply, and he couldn’t help cursing inwardly.
He swiftly dodged sideways past Lu Xiao’s thrust—but before he could catch his breath, the executioner’s boning knife was already coming at him from behind again.
Enemies front and back.
Yu Huaiting’s situation instantly turned somewhat passive.
He began constantly dodging and blocking, cold sweat gradually seeping onto his forehead.
“Songcheng-gege~ say something.”
Yu Huaiting called urgently in his mind.
“No good.” Fu Songcheng’s voice was a little urgent too. “They’re in a high combat state right now, adrenaline surging—pure mental interference can’t affect them.”
Yu Huaiting gritted his teeth, his mood growing anxious.
Lu Xiao’s attacks came without pause, the short sword in her hand like a serpent’s tongue, angles tricky and every move lethal.
Coordinating with the executioner’s wide, sweeping attacks, the two actually forced Yu Huaiting into retreat.
Fu Songcheng watched with alarm.
He clearly remembered that a month ago, Lu Xiao’s skill had been nowhere near this terrifying.
Now, her speed, strength, and combat instincts had all undergone earth-shaking change.
If it came to a one-on-one, it could be said that the current Lu Xiao was barely much inferior to Fu Songcheng in skill.
Rip—
The executioner’s boning knife sliced open Yu Huaiting’s arm, blood instantly staining the ornate priest robe.
The pain made Yu Huaiting’s movements pause imperceptibly.
Lu Xiao immediately seized the chance, her short sword driving straight at Yu Huaiting’s throat.
“Courting death.”
Killing light blazed in Yu Huaiting’s eyes. Instead of retreating, he advanced—risking his shoulder being stabbed, he threw a heavy punch straight at her face.
Lu Xiao clearly hadn’t expected him to take a mutual-destruction approach. Forced to pull her sword back on guard, the two each retreated several steps.
Yu Huaiting panted heavily, the wound on his arm throbbing, yet the light in his eyes didn’t dim—it grew more excited.
He hadn’t met such a difficult opponent in a long time.
The more wounded and disadvantaged he became, the more excited he got.
Since teaming up with Fu Songcheng, he hadn’t been driven to this kind of corner in a long time.
