The one nuisance Fu Songcheng least wanted to deal with in this instance was Lin Feng. If Lin Feng died in the dream, it would be a good thing for him—like purifying the air.
But now, Bai Mu was stuck in there.
Fu Songcheng turned, his gaze sweeping coldly across the hall.
Bai Mu was the bridge for him and Yu Huaiting back to the real world, and his objective this time. He couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
“Mr. Fu?” Seeing him silent, Zhao Yixing grew more anxious. “Aren’t you going…”
“Got it.”
Fu Songcheng let out a long sigh and suppressed the resistance in his heart. He turned to Xu Zhun beside him.
“Can your [Interstellar Broadcast] reach Bai Mu?”
Xu Zhun tried, then shook his head helplessly.
Fu Songcheng flipped his wrist and took a thick information booklet from his system backpack, handing it to him and Xu Qingyao.
“This is the information booklet.” Fu Songcheng spoke quickly, mild and clear. “Go look up the names of the remaining players who haven’t been woken. Once I bring Bai Mu out, we’ll immediately go find the next one.”
“Okay.”
Xu Qingyao said seriously.
Fu Songcheng wasted no more words, jerking his chin at Zhao Yixing. “Let’s go.”
The two walked quickly to the elevator, heading straight for the third floor.
In the elevator, Fu Songcheng stared at the jumping floor numbers and asked in a low voice, “Weren’t you acting together? How did only she get trapped?”
“We reached room 3751’s door together. The moment Bai Mu stepped in, the door shut by itself. I couldn’t get in from outside.”
Ding—
The elevator doors opened on the third floor.
Fu Songcheng strode out and went straight to room 3751’s door.
The door was tightly shut. He gripped the handle—indeed couldn’t push it open. But Fu Songcheng had the universal room card he’d found at the front desk. After swiping it.
A system announcement sounded in Fu Songcheng’s mind.
[Registering employee “Fu Songcheng” information…]
The door could be pushed.
Fu Songcheng stepped in with long strides.
The door closed again, shutting the wanting-to-follow Zhao Yixing outside. Inside, only Lin Feng was sleeping—no sign of Bai Mu. Who knew which of Lin Feng’s dream layers she was trapped in.
But Fu Songcheng had already figured something out before entering:
“Lin Feng, I know you can hear me.”
The room was dead silent; only Fu Songcheng’s voice could be heard.
“I have a causality item in my hand called [Sever]. It can completely cut off all connection and causality between two things.”
He deliberately paused, letting his voice echo through the space.
“If you keep pretending to sleep here, I’ll count to three, and then I’ll immediately use this item on you and your Lifelong Partner, Chen Yu.”
“Three.”
The space remained dead silent.
“Two.”
Fu Songcheng’s fingers made a slow, forceful motion in the void, as if about to crush something.
“One…”
Just as the “one” was about to leave his mouth, several sounds of shattering glass rang by Fu Songcheng’s ear.
Bang!
A figure was hurled viciously out of midair, landing straight at Fu Songcheng’s feet.
“Holy—where is this?!”
Bai Mu rolled awkwardly twice on the ground, clutched her aching head, and got up. Her hair was disheveled, her eyes still carrying un-faded terror and bewilderment.
When she looked up and saw that the person standing before her was Fu Songcheng, she froze, then her eyes instantly reddened. The nerves she’d kept taut for six hours suddenly relaxed, and she jumped up as if grasping a lifesaving straw. “Mr. Fu! You finally came!”
“Are you alright?”
Fu Songcheng looked her up and down. Aside from being a bit bedraggled, she didn’t seem to have any fatal injuries.
“I’m fine…”
Bai Mu took a deep breath. Once she’d confirmed she was safe, she started complaining through gritted teeth. “I’m about to die of anger! You have no idea what I went through in those six hours!”
Fu Songcheng raised an eyebrow and asked along, “What happened?”
Bai Mu spoke rapid-fire, pouring it out like beans: “When I first went in, I found him in a really dark room. Following my previous experience, I took him off guard and cut him with my dagger. But after I fell into his first dream layer with him—guess what I was doing? I was peeping along with him!”
Fu Songcheng was puzzled. What kind of kink was this?
Bai Mu stamped her foot in anger, rubbing her arm in disgust as she spoke. “In his dream, he lived next door to Chen Yu. He’d bored a hole in the wall, and the room had surveillance screens—watching Chen Yu! Even what time Chen Yu drank water, what time he turned over, what color socks he wore today—all recorded in a little notebook! My goosebumps were falling all over the floor—I was so disgusted I almost threw up my meal!”
“You want to die?”
A sinister voice suddenly sounded behind the two.
The voice wasn’t loud, yet it was like a venomous snake crawling up Bai Mu’s spine.
Lin Feng sat on the double bed at the center of the room, slowly opening his eyes. His gaze was like poison, fixed dead on Bai Mu.
“Say one more word, and I’ll pull out your tongue.”
Fu Songcheng stepped forward in a big stride, unobtrusively shielding Bai Mu completely behind him, his gaze equally cold and sharp, meeting Lin Feng’s stare without yielding an inch.
“If you’re not convinced, you can spar with me.”
Fu Songcheng’s tone was calm. “Right now, you’d best help clear the instance immediately, or I’ll still use that item.”
Lin Feng let out a cold humph, jumped off the bed, and took the lead out the door, vanishing within a few breaths.
Fu Songcheng and Bai Mu walked out of room 3751 side by side.
“So,” Fu Songcheng asked as he and Bai Mu headed back to the hall, “you stayed in there a full six hours, and all you did was watch him peep?”
Bai Mu straightened up abruptly and added in a small voice, “Of course not! I really couldn’t stand that perverted look of his, so I cursed him a few times, trying to provoke him awake.”
Bai Mu deliberately made a suspenseful pause, insisting on waiting for Fu Songcheng to ask.
Fu Songcheng indulged her urge to confide: “And then?”
“And then he hit me.” Bai Mu looked utterly aggrieved, pointing at her cheek and shoulder. “He beat me up right there in the dream! Then he dragged me down into his next dream layer.”
“…”
What was worth making suspenseful about that?
“When we got to the next dream layer, I circled around with him for ages, then couldn’t hold back and cursed him again.”
Here, Bai Mu’s voice took on a note of desolation. “Then I got beaten up again. Followed him down into a deeper dream layer… In every layer he went mad in a different way, and I cursed him in a different way, and then got beaten… On and on in this cycle, until you finally pulled me out.”
“…”
Fu Songcheng was utterly speechless.
The corridor fell into a dead silence lasting a full ten seconds.
“But every time I cursed him, he’d wake up and beat me up. I thought there’d eventually be an end, so going into the later dreams, I just straight-up cursed him as a pervert.”
No wonder Lin Feng’s killing intent had been so heavy when he woke just now—Bai Mu had probably greeted his entire family and friends in the dreams.
“Fine.”
Fu Songcheng thought for a long time and could only give a dry reply of “fine.”
Bai Mu looked mature and steady, but Fu Songcheng strongly suspected she could get along well with that fool Yu Huaiting.
