Wen Ci had a sharp ear for voices and could recognize someone after hearing them just once. Her gaze fell on Xue Li, who was jogging toward her, holding a few lunchboxes in his hands. Her eyes curved into a smile, “Are you going to the canteen to get food?”
Xue Li pouted, “I’m getting food for someone else.”
As he spoke, his eyes landed on the insulated lunchbox in Wen Ci’s hand, and they lit up. “Sister-in-law, are you here to bring food for Brother Huo?”
“He seems to be out on a mission again?”
Xue Li: “But Brother Huo’s mission is within the military camp.”
After a moment of hesitation, Xue Li decided to personally escort Wen Ci into the camp. Since the incident with Dr. Su sneaking into the building, the military camp had tightened security.
No one without military credentials was allowed to enter.
Unless they were personally escorted by someone.
“Sister-in-law, let me take you in.”
Wen Ci shook her head, “How about you take it in for me?”
“No way.” Xue Li shook his head even more vigorously. If Brother Huo found out that the food delivery from his wife had turned into a delivery from him, he’d probably skin him alive!
Hell Week was approaching.
No one wanted to provoke the King of Hell at such a critical time.
Hell Week was scheduled for the end of the month, coinciding with the military art tour. It had been moved up by two weeks. Once Hell Week training was over, they could watch the female soldiers’ performance.
“Brother Huo will be really happy to know you’re here.”
Wen Ci clicked her tongue.
Xue Li not only had to bring food for Huo Jingyuan but also for others. He escorted Wen Ci to the military camp gate and called out to one of the soldiers, “Hua Qiang, come over and help.”
Hearing this, Wang Huaqiang jogged over to Xue Li and asked, “What’s up?”
As he spoke, he noticed the beautiful woman beside Xue Li, raised an eyebrow, and teased, “Xue Li, is this your blind date?”
Xue Li was considered a top-tier bachelor in the Northwest Military Region, and his future prospects were limitless. Many officers wanted to match him with their relatives.
Xue Li’s face turned pale, “Are you out of your mind?! This is Commander Huo’s wife.”
Wang Huaqiang’s pupils dilated in shock. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he began slapping his own mouth in front of Wen Ci, “Spit, spit, spit! I spoke out of turn! Sister-in-law, please be magnanimous and forgive me!”
He was under Commander Huo’s command.
During Hell Week, the King of Hell was even harsher on his own subordinates than on soldiers from other regiments. After learning that Hell Week had been moved up, no one in the regiment dared to show their face in front of Commander Huo.
Wen Ci smiled gently, “It’s alright.”
Xue Li instructed, “I need to go to the canteen to get food for the regiment committee. You take Sister-in-law to Commander Huo’s office and let her wait there for a while.”
“Understood.”
It was lunchtime, and as Wen Ci entered the military camp, she became the center of attention, drawing heated gazes from all directions.
Wang Huaqiang quickly explained, “Sister-in-law, please forgive them. They’re new recruits who’ve been living in the Northwest Military Region for a long time and haven’t seen many women. Someone as beautiful as you naturally draws a few extra glances.”
“It’s fine.”
After Wang Huaqiang finished explaining, he slowly turned his gaze toward the new recruits, narrowed his eyes, and made a shooing gesture with his hand.
As they reached the corner of the staircase, Wen Ci caught sight of Huo Jingyuan’s tall and imposing figure. The training uniform accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
“Comman—”
Wang Huaqiang was about to call out to Commander Huo when Wen Ci, standing beside him, spoke softly, “Don’t call him. Let’s give him a little surprise.”
From the corner, they watched Huo Jingyuan enter his office. Wen Ci asked, “Hua Qiang, is that office Commander Huo’s?”
She didn’t know Wang Huaqiang’s full name, so she simply followed Xue Li’s way of addressing him.
