Before long, the Santana came to a stop in front of a single-story house.
Gu Jianing got out of the car with Xingxing and Yueyue, looking at the house in front of them. It wasn’t too big or too small, but it was enough for Big Brother’s family to live in.
“This is the house I bought with my first earnings. It’s not very big or fancy, but at least we have a place of our own in Haicheng, a home for us,” said Gu Yunting.
Yang Manman recalled how overjoyed she had been when she first learned her husband had bought this house.
Truthfully, what she had longed for wasn’t a particularly large house but simply having the family live together under one roof.
“After your brother bought this house, we went to pick up Shitou and Xinxin…”
Before Yang Manman could finish her sentence, a voice suddenly called out from inside.
“Mom, Dad, did you bring Auntie and the others back?”
The door swung open from within, and a lively little boy poked his head out.
It was none other than Shitou.
When Shitou saw Gu Jianing, Xingxing, and Yueyue, his eyes lit up.
“Auntie! Xingxing and Yueyue!”
“Cousin Shitou!”
Xingxing and Yueyue also missed their cousin Shitou dearly. They immediately ran over, and the three children hugged each other, clearly very close.
Not long after, Xinxin, hearing the commotion, came running out as well.
Soon, the four children were playing together.
Shitou and Xinxin even brought out their toys to share with Xingxing and Yueyue.
As for Tuantuan, he was still too young—only six months old—so he could only continue to be held in his father’s arms, curiously looking around.
That night, Gu Jianing’s family stayed at Gu Yunting’s house.
Though the house didn’t look very big from the outside, it had quite a few rooms.
Even after their family moved in, there were still two rooms left.
Knowing that her sister-in-law’s family would be visiting, Yang Manman had spent the past few days cleaning and preparing the two spare rooms.
She had even taken out all the bedding, pillows, and blankets to wash and air them.
So now, when Gu Jianing’s family arrived, they could move in right away.
That evening, Gu Yunting treated them to a meal at a high-end restaurant nearby.
During dinner, Gu Jianing also talked about building a house back in their hometown and implementing the household responsibility system. The conversation was lively throughout the meal.
Naturally, Haicheng was more developed than Huaihua Village.
For example, Haicheng had already been fully electrified, whereas Huaihua Village still hadn’t. Having electricity made life much more convenient.
However, with the upcoming reform and opening-up policy, the nation would progress rapidly in all aspects. Gu Jianing believed it wouldn’t be long before Huaihua Village also had electricity.
Gu Jianing’s family spent a total of three days in Haicheng.
During those three days, Yang Manman occasionally had to attend classes.
Gu Yunting, on the other hand, made time to take them around Haicheng whenever possible.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Soon, it was time to part again.
Shitou and Xinxin clung to Xingxing and Yueyue, unwilling to let go, wiping their tears as they cried over the separation.
Gu Yunting, of course, was also reluctant to say goodbye to his little sister, but everyone had their own lives to live.
So parting was inevitable.
Yang Manman, especially, hugged her sister-in-law tearfully.
“Ningning, once you get to the capital, you must send me your contact information. We have to stay in touch,” Yang Manman urged.
Gu Jianing nodded. “Don’t worry, Sister-in-law. I will.”
Yang Manman looked at Gu Jianing with deep emotion.
Many people say that sisters-in-law often don’t get along.
But Yang Manman and Gu Jianing had an excellent relationship—they were practically like real sisters.
Moreover, Yang Manman was deeply grateful to Gu Jianing.
If not for the treatment Gu Jianing had given her back then,
she wouldn’t have had Shitou and Xinxin, her two beloved children.
No one knew this, but when Yang Manman passed out after giving birth to Xinxin, she had a dream.
In that dream, she and Gu Yunting never had children in their entire lives. Their relationship wasn’t as good as it was now, either. They never left Huaihua Village, spending their days in constant bickering, living a bleak and unfulfilled life.
When she woke up, Yang Manman felt as though she had lived another lifetime.
She even had a strong premonition—had she just glimpsed her past life?
Whatever the case, in this life, she had Shitou and Xinxin. She had gotten into university, and now her husband had followed her to Haicheng to build their future. After buying the house, they had even brought their children from their hometown to Haicheng for better education.
This was the life Yang Manman was content with now.
And she was immensely grateful to her sister-in-law.
Her intuition told her that all these changes had happened because of Gu Jianing.
So, of course, she would always cherish their bond.
Gu Jianing wasn’t aware of all this, but seeing her elder brother’s family like this made her happy.
At the very least, it was so much better than their lives in her past life.
In this lifetime, at least up to now, all the family members she cared about were living happily.
Just like when they arrived, Gu Yunting drove them to the airport again.
When they reached the airport, Gu Jianing stepped forward and hugged her elder brother tightly.
“Big Brother, I believe that the next time we meet, you and Sis will be even better versions of yourselves. I wish you all the best—may your future be brighter and brighter.”
Gu Yunting patted her back and said, “You too. Take care of yourself. Don’t neglect your own well-being for the sake of the kids. No matter what, you are the most important.”
Even though Gu Jianing now had children, in Gu Yunting’s heart,
his little sister would always be more important than his nieces and nephews.
“If you ever need Big Brother or your sister-in-law for anything, just call us. I may not have much influence now, but I can still protect you.”
“And Big Brother will keep getting stronger—strong enough to have your back.”
Gu Jianing smiled and nodded. “Okay.”
“Then I’ll be going now.”
“Alright, take care on your journey.”
Watching his little sister’s family walk away, Gu Yunting was filled with emotion.
A couple of days ago, his mother had called and told them about what Jianing and the children had gone through on Huansha Island.
She had also mentioned how Xingxing and Yueyue were pushed into the sea by a villain and how that person had schemed against Jianing’s family.
The reason Yao Chunhua knew about this was because Yueyue had accidentally mentioned it while playing with Zhuangzhuang back in their hometown, and Yao Chunhua had overheard.
Under Yao Chunhua’s relentless questioning, Gu Jianing had no choice but to confess.
But Yao Chunhua had burst into tears on the spot.
Hugging Gu Jianing, Xingxing, and Yueyue, she kept saying how much they had suffered.
She scolded Jianing for not telling them about it earlier, only sharing the good news and hiding the bad. But as parents, hearing about it truly broke their hearts.
Honestly, if something like this had happened in the village, not just Yao Chunhua but the entire Gu family would have stormed over to demand justice for Jianing, Xingxing, and Yueyue.
Yao Chunhua didn’t intend to keep this from her three sons.
In fact, she had specifically called her eldest son in Haicheng and her third son in the capital to tell them.
