The five little wolf pups also got to eat meat porridge, just like little boss. They buried their heads in their bowls and didn’t lift them once while eating.
Song Wei returned to the roasted lamb. The meat was already done, and Lin Zhen used a dagger to slice it into pieces, placing them in a bowl before handing it to Song Wei.
“That snow leopard woke up—will it run away?”
Everyone sitting nearby had seen the snow leopard regain consciousness. At first, they were a bit nervous, but after realizing the snow leopard couldn’t do anything to Song Wei, they relaxed.
Song Wei: “Probably not. Her three cubs are still here. Even if she could run, could she carry all three cubs away at once?”
“Besides, even if she runs, it’s fine. We weren’t planning to keep them anyway.”
Snow leopards might be beautiful, but they aren’t suited for domestication.
Song Wei was just taking the opportunity to pet the snow leopard cubs now. Even if the mother snow leopard died, she wouldn’t take the cubs away with her.
The environment in the northeast was different from here. Snow leopards were accustomed to high-altitude, cold climates, and they might not survive if taken elsewhere.
As for the five wolves, Song Wei was genuinely a bit troubled now.
The mother snow leopard did want to leave—this place made her extremely uneasy.
But she was injured. Though the meat had given her some strength, her body still ached. She had no idea how far she could run, let alone carry three cubs with her.
Even if she could take them back, in her current state, she wouldn’t be able to hunt. Her cubs would starve to death.
The mother snow leopard was also worried.
The smell of wolf on her three cubs made her even more anxious and annoyed.
She kept pulling the cubs over to lick them furiously.
Damn wolves!
Fretting like this, the three little snow leopards yelped as their mother’s barbed tongue roughed them up, their soft fur puffing up like hedgehogs.
But in the end, they spent the night carefree, snuggled against their mother.
The five little wolf pups also huddled together next to the little boss to sleep, each one plump and adorable.
Hasanmu volunteered to stay up and keep watch, mainly to guard against the snow leopard, worried it might try to sneak an attack at night.
Fortunately, the snow leopard remained well-behaved until dawn.
By the next day, the three little snow leopards woke up hungry and began searching for milk.
Their tiny pink paws kneaded rhythmically against their mother’s soft belly.
The mother snow leopard lay still, her gaze fixed intently into the distance.
It was time to hunt. She wanted to go hunting.
She tried to stand but collapsed after a few steps, pain forcing her back down.
The mother snow leopard licked her wounds.
The three cubs, nearly abandoned by their mother, yelped and scrambled after her on tiny, unsteady legs.
Song Wei emerged from the tent and locked eyes with the mother snow leopard from afar.
The snow leopard was deeply wary.
Song Wei and Lin Zhen ignored her, taking their horses to go hunting instead.
With a slingshot in hand, Song Wei wielded it like a gun, hitting her targets with unerring accuracy even from horseback.
This time, she hunted marmots—shooting every one she saw.
Humans wouldn’t eat them, but snow leopards would.
There was still some wolf meat left, though. Surely the snow leopard would eat that too?
There had been too many wolves. The previous day, everyone had worked to preserve the meat, slicing it into strips and hanging them on makeshift racks to dry.
The remaining wolf pelts would be tanned today by Feng Tingxuan and Yu Wei working together.
Two hours later, Song Wei and Lin Zhen returned with a bounty of prey.
Though they were all small, common game animals.
Lin Zhen and the others prepared breakfast while Song Wei took the marmots to the snow leopard.
The mother snow leopard had moved further away with her three cubs, putting more distance between herself and the tents. She’d even found a large rock to use as cover.
It stared intently at the direction of the grazing herd. In its eyes, those densely gathered livestock were no different from an all-you-can-eat buffet!
Too bad it couldn’t eat them.
It couldn’t hunt right now, and those humans had dangerous weapons.
Song Wei’s approach made it even more wary. Struggling to its feet, it let out a warning growl to drive her away.
Song Wei walked straight toward it.
Oh please, like you can intimidate me.
She tossed a marmot and some wolf meat to the mother snow leopard.
“Squeak-rawr~”
The three carefree cubs seemed to have already memorized Song Wei’s scent. She had fed them goat milk the day before, so unlike their mother, they weren’t hostile toward her—they even approached her willingly.
Furious, the mother snow leopard grabbed one cub by the scruff and dragged it back. But with only one mouth, she couldn’t hold all three troublemakers at once.
In the end, she could only watch helplessly as the other two cubs scampered over to Song Wei.
Song Wei grinned, scooping them up and giving them a good rub.
She pinched their tiny paws, flicked their little ears, scratched their chins, and rubbed their soft bellies.
So fluffy. The texture was heavenly.
Mother Snow Leopard: “……”
She couldn’t win in a fight, and yelling was useless since the human wouldn’t understand.
Grumpily, the mother snow leopard bit into the wolf meat.
She knew better than to let anger get in the way of a meal—no matter how mad she was, she wouldn’t take it out on her own body.
Once my wounds heal, I swear I’ll settle the score with this two-legged creature!
After getting her fill of snow leopard cub cuddles, Song Wei went to fetch some goat milk.
Little Boss and the wolf pups shared a bowl, their tiny butts wiggling happily as they lapped it up under Hasanmu’s watchful gaze.
Wolf pups had short memories—they’d happily adopt anyone who fed them, forgetting their real parents within days.
The snow leopard cubs had nursed from their mother earlier, but the moment they smelled goat milk, they rushed over, scrambling to get their share.
The mother snow leopard, having eaten her fill of meat, licked her lips as she stared at the milk.
Why does it smell so good?
Eventually, the cubs drank until their bellies were round, letting out tiny milk burps. There was still a little left in the bowl.
Song Wei pushed it toward the mother snow leopard.
“Go on, you’ve been eyeing it long enough.”
She herself was happily munching on a fragrant roasted sweet potato.
The mother snow leopard shot her a wary glance but didn’t drink.
Only after a long pause did she finally drag the bowl closer and start lapping at it.
Delicious!
Her eyes widened in surprise.
Despite her usually sharp and cunning appearance, with her eyes round like this, she looked adorably silly.
Kinda cute.
Thinking this, Song Wei stealthily grabbed the mother snow leopard’s tail while she was distracted by the milk.
The sudden touch startled the snow leopard so badly she leaped into the air—
—and promptly aggravated her injuries from the abrupt movement.
Song Wei: “…Didn’t expect you to be this jumpy.”
The mother snow leopard collapsed on the ground, motionless.
