1980s: Sickly Educated Youth Raising Cubs in the Countryside Chapter 191: Highway Robbery

Long-haul trucks are usually equipped with two drivers.

The journey from Ping’an Brigade to Song Jing’s location would take four days, during which unexpected incidents could occur.

“We’re about to reach Hongjiawan. Stay alert, everyone.”

During a break for food and rest, Song Wei and Lin Zhen noticed the somber and serious atmosphere among the drivers.

Lin Zhen went over to talk to them and learned the reason.

“It is said that Hongjiawan used to be a bandit stronghold. Vehicles passing through are sometimes unlucky enough to encounter roadblocks demanding tolls.”

Lin Zhen relayed the situation to Song Wei.

“No one takes care of this?”

“No. It’s beyond control,” he explained.

“The people of Hongjiawan are very united, living deep in the mountains. They often engage in illegal activities.”

Song Wei understood.

They’re violent and unreasonable. No wonder the truck drivers looked so tense.

“Can’t we take a detour?”

Lin Zhen shook his head. “This is the only route.”

All they could do was hope for good luck and avoid encountering the people of Hongjiawan.

But as fate would have it, they weren’t that lucky.

As their truck cautiously approached a mountain road, they found the path blocked by large rocks and thick tree trunks, making it impossible to pass.

Seeing the obstacles, Zhou Peng and the others felt a sinking feeling in their hearts.

“Damn it. Looks like we’ve run into Hongjiawan’s highway robbers.”

“Let’s move those things out of the way. What, are we afraid of them?”

The Northeasterners were known for their fiery tempers and toughness.

But… courage doesn’t beat numbers.

As soon as their truck stopped, a group of men emerged from the forest.

“Get down! Everyone in the truck, get down!”

They had three trucks in total. Including Lin Zhen and Song Wei, they were only eight people, not counting Heidan (the young boy).

Zhou Peng tried to remain calm and composed. “Brothers, we’re just earning some hard money here. Let’s handle this peacefully, alright?”

He offered cigarettes to the man who seemed to be their leader.

The man took the cigarettes, holding a knife in his hand. “You’ve got the right idea. But times are tough for us too. If you’re passing through, you’ll have to leave something behind.”

He gestured to one of his men. “Check what they’ve got in the trucks.”

Zhou Peng’s face darkened. It seemed this wasn’t going to end peacefully today.

“Boss, there are people in the back of this truck!”

Lin Zhen and Song Wei were discovered.

Song Wei, holding Heidan in her arms, wasn’t in the best of moods.

The men from Hongjiawan sneered, “Get out, all of you!” “Well, well, look at this pretty lady.”

Their lecherous and greedy eyes landed on Song Wei.

Lin Zhen’s face turned dark as he stared at the man, his gaze sharp as a blade.

The man faltered under Lin Zhen’s glare, instinctively taking a few steps back, visibly frightened.

His companions burst into laughter, jeering at him. “Come on, you’re holding a knife! How can you be scared of him with so many of us here?”

Humiliated, the man became angry. He brandished his knife and lunged toward Lin Zhen. “Get down here!”

Without hesitation, Lin Zhen kicked him square in the chest, sending him flying with a scream.

The scene fell silent.

Zhou Peng felt his heart drop. He had thought Lin Zhen was calm and composed, especially considering his high rank in the military.

But he hadn’t expected him to act so rashly.

As expected, the robbers snapped out of their shock and erupted in anger.

“You’re dead meat!”

Several men charged at Lin Zhen with weapons.

Lin Zhen remained calm, seizing a hoe from one of them and kicking another man to the ground. He jumped off the truck and engaged them in a fight.

A battlefield-hardened soldier, Lin Zhen easily handled multiple attackers at once.

The leader of the Hongjiawan group quickly realized they had messed with the wrong person.

His eyes darted toward the truck, where a woman and a child were.

While his men kept Lin Zhen occupied, he dashed toward the truck to grab Song Wei and Heidan.

Song Wei, unfazed, stared at him coldly. She raised her hand.

Slap!

Her palm landed hard on the man’s face, warping it as his vision went black, his head buzzing.

But it wasn’t over yet. He soon felt a sharp pain in his chest as Song Wei kicked him, sending him flying.

“Boss!”

Song Wei placed Heidan and the two snarling wolf cubs back in the truck and got down herself.

Under the dumbfounded gaze of the truck drivers, she kicked three men three meters away, one by one.

She even caught a solid iron rod swung at her and twisted it into a pretzel right before their eyes.

The robbers of Hongjiawan were stunned.

One man tried to slash at her from behind with a knife, but she sidestepped and kicked him. He crashed into a truck with a loud thud and fainted on the spot.

Within twenty minutes, Lin Zhen and Song Wei had subdued the notorious robbers of Hongjiawan. The once-feared gang now lay groaning on the ground, unable to even crawl.

It took only about twenty minutes from the beginning to the end.

The truck drivers stood frozen, staring at the two of them with blank expressions, unsure how to react.”
