“Don’t move.”
Xiao Cheng’s low, restrained voice reached her ears. Lin Aiyun turned her head and caught sight of his prominent Adam’s apple bobbing. In a daze, she felt the heat she’d accidentally brushed against earlier during her struggles, now pressed firmly against her calf.
She estimated the position—and when she realized what it was, the tips of her ears flushed a deep red.
Seeing her settle down, Xiao Cheng carried her to the back seat of the car, set her down, and braced one hand on the seat. He leaned in, pressing his hand to the back of her neck—but his lips missed, landing on her cheek instead.
Opening his eyes to find her glaring at him, Xiao Cheng let out a soft laugh. He gently pinched the soft flesh of her cheek and coaxed, “Wife, I’m sorry.”
“You’re still laughing! Ha, you know you’re wrong? Who are you kidding? I’ve told you so many times—when we’re outside, you need to control yourself. No wandering hands. And what do you do? Today, the second I let my guard down, you…”
Lin Aiyun jabbed a finger into Xiao Cheng’s chest. The firm yet springy texture was oddly satisfying—she couldn’t help poking him a few times. But before she could finish, an exquisitely wrapped gift box suddenly appeared before her, cutting off her train of thought.
“What’s this?” Like a magic trick—she hadn’t even seen where he’d pulled it from.
“I should have given it to you earlier, but I only got it today.” Xiao Cheng nudged the box toward her, signaling her to take it, a faint smile lingering on his lips.
Lin Aiyun looked up at him, hesitated for a moment, then took the box. She untied the ribbon, lifted the lid, and revealed what was inside—a gold ring. The band was engraved with a delicate pattern of clouds around its circumference, so finely carved you wouldn’t notice it without looking closely.
“How is it?” Since her head was bowed, Xiao Cheng couldn’t see her expression. He became uncharacteristically nervous and anxious, his palms pressing down harder on the seat, leaving faint creases.
When she still didn’t respond after a long moment, Xiao Cheng assumed she didn’t like it. He cleared his throat awkwardly. “The design isn’t great—if you don’t like it, I’ll redesign it and have them make another one.”
He reached to take the ring from her hand, but before his fingers could touch it, she clutched it protectively to her chest. When she spoke, her voice was slightly hoarse.
“Who said I don’t like it? Put it on me.”
The last words, with their lilting, coaxing tone, carried no trace of her earlier anger. Girls were easy to soothe—if you put in the effort, you wouldn’t stay mad for long.
Those who didn’t care couldn’t be taught; those who cared didn’t need to be told.
No wonder Xiao Cheng had dared to provoke her today—he’d already planned his escape route. Lin Aiyun grumbled inwardly, but on the surface, she held out her left hand with a hint of pride.
“As you wish.” Xiao Cheng’s smile deepened as he slipped the ring onto her finger. Only then did she notice that his left ring finger bore an identical ring, highlighting his long, well-defined fingers beautifully.
“When did you prepare this? I had no idea.” Lin Aiyun grabbed his hand, holding hers and his together. The gold rings sparkled brightly.
Xiao Cheng turned his hand over, clasping hers, admiring the result of his weeks of planning. He couldn’t help teasing her: “If you knew, would it still be a surprise?”
Hearing this, Lin Aiyun pursed her lips and wrapped her arms around his waist. Through two thin layers of fabric, she could feel their body heat mingling. Beneath her palms were his firm muscles and searing warmth. Looking up, she could see the sharp line of his jaw.
Her cheek pressed against his chest, listening to the pounding symphony of his heart—it was inexplicably intimate.
“It really is a surprise!” Lin Aiyun curved her lips, speaking slowly: “I’m so happy today. Not only did I earn a spot in the embroidery association, but I also got a ring designed by my husband.”
“Why are you so good to me?”
Xiao Cheng seemed to find that amusing. He pinched her earlobe and rubbed it gently, his voice low and husky—in the cramped space, it felt like a lover’s whisper. “If a man doesn’t treat his wife well, who else is he going to treat well?”
In the dim light, the man bending over her was a striking sight. Even the most tailored clothes couldn’t contain his powerfully magnetic physique—long legs, a lean waist, every gesture radiating an undeniable allure—yet his cool, refined bearing made him seem unapproachable.
But around her, he softened, showing a warmth rarely seen.
His shirt cuffs were exposed as he braced his arms, the two diamond cufflinks gleaming coolly. His brow ridge was high, his nose straight, his lips parting slightly. Though his actions weren’t improper, at that moment, Lin Aiyun found herself lost in him. She leaned in and kissed the corner of his lips.
“Husband, let’s go home?”
Later, Lin Aiyun would use only one phrase to curse herself: Distracted by a handsome face!
Right now, she saw him freeze for a second, then lean in to deepen the kiss. It didn’t last long, but it was tender and mesmerizing.
“Not angry anymore?” He rested his forehead against hers, his eyes darkening as he gazed at her flushed face. She looked like she was drunk—her hair slightly tousled, her big eyes shimmering with fragmented light, effortlessly stirring his heart.
“Mm.” Was that really the point right now? Hadn’t she just made it clear she wanted to go home? He usually caught on so fast—why was he playing dense now?
Steeling herself, Lin Aiyun forced a calm expression, ignoring her ears, which were practically burning. “Aren’t you going to drive?”
“Got it—don’t be so impatient, wife.” Xiao Cheng chuckled and patted her head, then took a deep breath. He reached down to adjust his still-active arousal before straightening up, closing the door, and walking around to the driver’s seat.
Watching his entire sequence of movements, Lin Aiyun’s eyes widened. So it wasn’t that he didn’t want to hurry back—he just needed to cool down a little…
But what did he mean by she was impatient? She wasn’t at all!
“Xiao Cheng, you’re the impatient one—a hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times!”
Her furious shout was swallowed by the roar of the engine starting, but Xiao Cheng still caught every word. The redness at the corners of his eyes seemed to deepen. As he turned the steering wheel, he suddenly twisted around and curved his lips.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
Those loaded words successfully shut Lin Aiyun up. In the ensuing silence, she shamefully found a feeling called “anticipation” rising within her.
The two houses were close, but Xiao Cheng didn’t take the front entrance. Instead, he drove around through an alley to the back gate. He got out, took out the key, and unlocked it. The headlights illuminated his tall figure, and the clanking of the iron lock echoed harshly.
Before long, he pushed both gates open, drove the car in, and parked. He told her to stay put while he went back to lock the gate and come get her.
The area behind the gate was unoccupied and pitch dark, with no light other than the car’s headlamps. Even if Xiao Cheng hadn’t told her not to move, Lin Aiyun wouldn’t have wandered off. She nodded obediently. While he was gone, she grew a little bored and lifted her hand to admire the ring on her finger, seemingly unable to get enough of it.
Suddenly, the door beside her was pulled open. She was about to ask why he was back so quickly and get out—but the next second, he squeezed in beside her, and the door clicked shut.
Realizing what Xiao Cheng had in mind, Lin Aiyun swallowed hard. Then a large hand wrapped around her waist, pulling the hem of her shirt out from her trousers and slipping underneath.
His rough palm made contact with her delicate skin, and Xiao Cheng’s breathing immediately grew heavier. His hand roamed upward—aggressive, possessive, and fast—fully demonstrating exactly how to spell “impatient.”
He bit her lip, and with every suck, mixed with saliva, she trembled.
Lin Aiyun’s strength faded, and she went limp. He guided her hand to undo his belt. The cold touch of the metal sent waves through her mind, prompting her tongue to respond just slightly.
“It’ll get dirty—use your shirt to cover it.” With her last shred of reason, she caught the hem of his shirt as he was about to toss it aside. Her lips were glossy and slightly swollen—inexpressibly alluring.
The spot he’d lightly bitten on her collarbone had already left a mark. Xiao Cheng breathed heavily, his gaze growing darker. He’d seen delicate women before, but never this delicate—a mere touch left such a visible trace.
Yet an indescribable sense of possessive satisfaction filled him like never before.
“Wife, lift up a little.” One hand supported her hips while the other tucked his shirt underneath her—the oversized fabric covering most of the seat.
A pair of full, pink peaks above her slender waist were almost blinding.
Xiao Cheng took her hand—the one wearing the ring—and clasped it with his. He leaned his upper body over her, his chin resting on her shoulder, about to enter—when suddenly, a warm yellow beam swept across their faces.
Lin Aiyun nearly screamed in fright. Luckily, Xiao Cheng was quick—he covered her mouth just in time, and in that same moment, the distance between them became zero.
Moonlight streamed through the window, just enough for him to see her clearly. Her black hair cascaded behind her and over her front, her pale skin glowing. Her slender legs were folded neatly on the seat, wrinkling his shirt.
Her long lashes trembled, a couple of teardrops clinging to them, threatening to fall.
She looked pitiful—and yet, utterly beautiful.
Distracted by the person outside with the flashlight, she clenched around him so tightly that Xiao Cheng almost lost control. He had to pepper her with soft kisses to ease her tension—his lips traced from her collarbone to her ear, circling endlessly. Every place he touched turned a vivid red, a clear sign of her embarrassment.
“Is that the young master?” It was Jiang Guojun’s voice. Getting older made him a lighter sleeper, and since he lived close by, he must have heard someone at the back gate and come to check for intruders.
What he found instead was a pair of “wild lovebirds” on the hunt.
Naturally, Jiang Guojun noticed nothing amiss. Recognizing Xiao Cheng’s car, he simply turned off his flashlight and walked away.
After he’d gone, Xiao Cheng finally uncovered Lin Aiyun’s mouth. The moment he did, he felt a tear land on the back of his hand. He tilted her chin up to look at him and said softly, “He’s gone. It’s okay now.”
Lin Aiyun nodded, overcome by a mix of shame and relief, which only heightened her senses. She bit her lower lip, too embarrassed to make a sound.
