The Mother-Child Locator was designed in the shape of a watch.
All that was needed was for either the mother or the son to drop a drop of blood onto the watch, and the device would help locate the other.
As long as the two were within a kilometer of each other, it could accurately indicate the direction.
“Only a kilometer? That’s way too short.”
Gu Jianing had expected it to at least cover an area as large as a province.
If it could do that, it would be a powerful tool for finding missing persons.
But with only a kilometer of range, it was somewhat limited.
Gu Jianing decided to wait for Sheng Zexi to return and ask him whether he wanted to use it.
Meanwhile, Sheng Zexi and his father, Sheng Xinhao, were discussing who they could ask for help now that they had arrived in Yangcheng.
Unexpectedly, when the government liaison assigned to them overheard their conversation, he immediately offered their assistance.
“Don’t worry, sir. As long as they’re within Yangcheng, we’ll find them.”
“We’ll begin the search as soon as possible.”
Sheng Zexi and Sheng Xinhao exchanged a glance. It made sense to have the local authorities handle the search.
After all, they were far more familiar with the area.
“Alright. We’ll leave it to you, then.”
Without delay, Sheng Xinhao provided the liaison with the information on A Wan and Henry.
After noting down the details, the liaison assured them he would have his people look into it as soon as he returned.
After finishing their discussion, Sheng Zexi went back to the room.
“The children are asleep?” Sheng Zexi asked softly, glancing at the kids on the bed.
“Yes.”
“Ningning, if you’re tired, you should rest too.”
“I’m fine. By the way, there’s something I want to tell you about…”
She then explained about the Mother-Child Locator.
“…Do you want to use it? If so, I’ll get it for you,” Gu Jianing asked.
Sheng Zexi thought for a moment, then said, “Alright, give it to me.”
Gu Jianing: So he does want to use it? Okay, then.
Without hesitation, Gu Jianing used her points to redeem the Mother-Child Locator right in front of Sheng Zexi.
To Sheng Zexi, it appeared as though Gu Jianing had simply spaced out for a moment, and then a watch-like object materialized in her hand.
Out of thin air.
To Sheng Zexi, it was truly astonishing.
Just as Gu Jianing was about to explain how to use it, Sheng Zexi suddenly pulled her into an embrace.
“Ningning, are you a fairy?”
Was that why she had so many miraculous abilities? Could she do magic?
Gu Jianing couldn’t help but laugh at his words.
“I’m no fairy. This is because…” She hesitated for a moment, wondering whether she should tell him about the Childbirth System.
But Sheng Zexi gently covered her lips. “Don’t say it. I don’t need to know.”
“As long as I’m sure you won’t suddenly fly up into the sky and leave me like a fairy would.”
Gu Jianing laughed at his remark. “I’m not a fairy, and I’m not going to fly up into the sky and leave you.”
“I have you. I have three children. I have family. How could I bear to leave?”
Sheng Zexi: True enough.
Hearing her say that put his mind at ease.
“Alright, let me show you how this works…” Gu Jianing then explained how to use the Mother-Child Locator.
Without much hesitation, Sheng Zexi pricked his finger with a needle and let a drop of blood fall onto the device.
The drop was quickly absorbed.
However, the Mother-Child Locator showed no response.
“It’s probably because we’re more than a kilometer apart, so it’s not showing anything. Only one kilometer—it’s a bit limited,” Gu Jianing murmured as she took Sheng Zexi’s hand and fastened the watch-like device onto his wrist.
“Actually, this is already very helpful. Sometimes, even if fate brings two people close, they might still miss each other without realizing it.”
“But with this, as long as we’re within a kilometer, it’ll alert us immediately, and we won’t miss the chance.”
Gu Jianing thought about it and realized her husband had a point.
Fate worked in mysterious ways. Those destined to meet could cross a thousand miles to find each other, while those without such a connection could stand face to face and never truly see.
In that sense, this device was still useful.
“Ningning, I have a feeling I’m about to see my mother.” He had felt this strongly before, back in Beijing, when they were about to go to the Friendship Hotel to look for her.
Now, having arrived in Yangcheng, that same feeling was just as strong.
“Good. I’m looking forward to it too,” Gu Jianing said, taking his hand.
Meanwhile, about ten kilometers away from where Sheng Zexi and the others were staying, at a certain residential property.
A Wan and Henry were staying here.
Originally, they had planned to check into a hotel for this trip.
But along the way, they had passed by a beautifully designed residential property available for rent, adorned with many flowers, and A Wan had instantly taken an interest.
So, they decided against staying at a hotel.
Though the rental was a bit pricey, the environment was lovely and very clean, and A Wan liked it.
So they settled in.
Tomorrow marked the start of the Canton Fair.
The fair would run for half a month, divided into five-day sessions.
The first session focused on electronics.
A Wan was participating in the first session, attending as a business delegate.
Although she had applied to enter China under this identity, she didn’t necessarily have to attend the fair.
After all, the company she had founded developed advanced electronics and automobiles, areas where China’s technology was relatively backward.
Still, since she had come under this status, it was appropriate to go through the motions.
Moreover, A Wan held a rather significant status.
She had specifically requested in advance to explore on her own.
Otherwise, local government officials in Yangcheng would have arranged to accompany her through the fair tomorrow.
“After the first session of the Canton Fair, let’s head back to Beijing and see that doctor?” A Wan suggested.
“Do we still need to see her? Shouldn’t we return to Country A?” Henry countered.
A Wan looked steadily at Henry and then said, “Didn’t you say you wanted children?”
Henry: Fair enough.
In truth, Henry was afraid of returning to Beijing. He had a nagging sense of dread that if they went back, he would lose A Wan forever.
He lowered his gaze, avoiding A Wan’s eyes.
He had a growing feeling that A Wan was beginning to sense something.
It made Henry feel guilty.
He didn’t dare meet her gaze.
In fact, A Wan did feel that something was off with Henry. She had the impression he was hiding something from her.
Something related to her true identity and the memories she had lost.
But it was only a suspicion.
She didn’t feel she could confront Henry directly.
After all, they had been married for over a decade, and Henry had always treated her well.
It didn’t seem right to doubt him.
A Wan told herself she hoped she was mistaken. She hoped Henry wasn’t keeping anything from her.
Otherwise…
A Wan was the kind of person who loved with all her heart and hated with all her soul—and she despised deception above all else!
