Marrying the Infertile Officer, Winning Effortlessly in the Seventies with a Pregnancy System Chapter 266: Boarding the Island

In the afternoon, Zhao Weiguo gazed out the window at the gradually easing rain.

He estimated the time—the heavy rain had indeed lasted exactly four hours.

Not a minute more, not a minute less!

“This is unbelievable. A woman actually has this kind of ability!”

Not only had she predicted the rain half an hour in advance, but she’d also accurately forecasted its duration.

This couldn’t simply be explained away as luck.

It was a skill—an extraordinary one at that!

Zhao Weiguo thought of the fishermen. If they had Gu Jianing’s ability to predict the weather, they could plan their sea voyages with precision.

And then there were the navy personnel, who frequently embarked on missions at sea. With someone like Gu Jianing on board—a capable person who could foresee the weather—their operations would be twice as effective.

After all, mission failures were often caused by unpredictable weather conditions.

“Sheng Zexi’s wife is truly remarkable.”

After this incident, even Zhao Weiguo—a rather chauvinistic man who had always believed women belonged at home tending to husbands and children—couldn’t help but change his opinion of Gu Jianing.

Well, to be precise, his opinion of Gu Jianing had changed, not his view of women in general!

So, that evening, when Gu Jianing stepped out of her room and happened to run into Zhao Weiguo, she noticed the shift in his gaze.

The previous hint of disdain was gone, replaced instead with a newfound respect.

Gu Jianing: As expected, some people only learn their lesson after getting a taste of their own medicine.

Truth be told, Gu Jianing had sensed Zhao Weiguo’s slight disdain from their very first meeting.

But she hadn’t paid it much mind.

After all, she wasn’t money—she couldn’t expect everyone to like her.

If Zhao Weiguo looked down on her, she wouldn’t waste her energy worrying about someone like that.

Sheng Zexi had also noticed it. After reminding Zhao once, and seeing that he still insisted on going to sea, Sheng Zexi chose not to persuade him further.

There was a hint of teaching him a lesson in this—letting him suffer a little to stand up for his wife.

Sheng Zexi: My wife comes first. Whoever disrespects her disrespects me!

Sheng Zexi had always been a rebellious, untamed man—not the type to be overly considerate.

That night, the Sheng family of four stayed at the hotel.

Zhao Weiguo and his team did the same.

The next day dawned bright and clear.

Zhao Weiguo took the initiative to invite them to board Huansha Island together.

This time, Sheng Zexi didn’t refuse.

Originally, they had planned to return with Zhao the day before.

But the weather had thrown a wrench in their plans.

Once on the boat, Zhao Weiguo even cracked a rare joke, “Sister-in-law, no heavy rain this time, right?”

Gu Jianing glanced at the sky. “No, today will be clear and sunny.”

She had checked the weather that morning—it showed a bright, cloudless day.

Zhao Weiguo sighed in relief. “How did you predict the rain yesterday? Any tips you can share?”

Gu Jianing: What tips? I just have a “weather forecast.”

She shook her head. “I just went by intuition.”

Zhao Weiguo assumed she was unwilling to share her methods because of his earlier attitude and disbelief, so he didn’t press further.

Soon, the boat set off.

For Xingxing and Yueyue, this was their first time on a boat and their first glimpse of the ocean since birth.

In fact, even for Gu Jianing, this was her first time experiencing both in this lifetime.

Everything felt wondrous.

The sea was vast and endless, a brilliant blue. The gentle breeze carried a faint salty tang.

Standing amidst such a vast ocean, one couldn’t help but feel small.

“Hey, she really was right—Sheng Zexi’s wife called it perfectly. It’s a clear day, perfect for sailing.”

“We’re almost at the island.”

“Who would’ve thought? Sheng Zexi’s wife isn’t just beautiful—she can even predict the weather. Amazing.”

“She’s the prettiest woman I’ve ever seen. And their kids are the cutest too.”

“Same here.”

The whispers of the crew reached Zhao Weiguo’s ears.

He couldn’t help but nod in agreement—they weren’t wrong.

After several hours of sailing, Huansha Island finally came into view.

“Is that Huansha Island?” Gu Jianing asked, gazing at the tall coconut trees in the distance—a signature feature of the island.

“Yes, that’s Huansha Island.”

They docked at the military port.

Not far away was another harbor, where the local fishermen moored their boats after returning from sea.

It was already noon.

Fishermen usually spent the whole day out at sea, so none had returned yet.

Huansha Island wasn’t particularly large, but it wasn’t small either—and it was an important location.

Aside from the military base occupying part of the island, most of it was home to generations of fishermen.

Once they disembarked, the military base wasn’t far.

Zhao Weiguo and his team, carrying supplies, took a vehicle back. Naturally, Sheng Zexi’s family of four joined them—they had plenty of luggage too.

As they rode, Gu Jianing observed the scenery outside the window.

The local customs here were quite different from those in the Northwest.

She thought it might be nice to explore the island with the kids when she had time.

And the coconuts…

She wanted to let the children try them too.

In just ten minutes, they arrived at the military base on the island.

After passing through security checks, the family of four entered the base. Zhao Weiguo, busy with work, quickly pointed out the location of their assigned house before leaving.

Sheng Zexi carried the luggage while Gu Jianing held Xingxing and Yueyue’s hands as they walked toward the family quarters.

“This should be it,”Sheng Zexi said, stopping in front of a single-story house.

Gu Jianing examined the house—it seemed smaller than the one they’d had in the Northwest.

But that made sense. The Northwest had plenty of open land, while space on the island was limited.

Just then, the closed door of the house creaked open slightly.

A dog squeezed through the gap.

Before Gu Jianing could say anything, her daughter spoke first—

“Hongying!”

Indeed, the dog slipping through the door was none other than Hongying.

Hongying recognized Gu Jianing, Sheng Zexi, and her little masters immediately.

Having been separated for over a month, Hongying had missed Yueyue the most.

The moment Yueyue called her name, Hongying dashed toward her.

The little girl and the puppy immediately embraced, nuzzling each other affectionately.

Meanwhile, the door swung open completely.

Gu Jianing spotted Amber and the other three pups.

“Sister, you’re finally here!”Amber wagged her tail excitedly at the sight of Gu Jianing.

She bounded toward her.

Sheng Zexi tensed slightly, worried Amber might accidentally bump into Gu Jianing—given her pregnancy.

But Amber knew her limits. She stopped just a meter away, then circled Gu Jianing happily, her tail wagging furiously.
