Marrying the Infertile Officer, Winning Effortlessly in the Seventies with a Pregnancy System Chapter 128: Starting the Job

Gu Jianing’s reputation had already spread throughout the military hospital back when she was still attending training classes.

Of course, the reasons she attracted attention weren’t just her exceptional medical skills but also her stunning beauty—and the fact that she was the wife of Sheng Zexi, that sharp-tongued, jade-faced “King of Hell.”

The two young male doctors in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) department were still unmarried, but they had heard rumors about Gu Jianing.

They never expected that Director Chen would manage to bring such a figure to their quiet TCM department.

Earlier, they had been discussing how today was Gu Jianing’s first day at work and wondering what she would really be like. Rumor had it that she was ‘breathtakingly beautiful.’

They weren’t sure if it was true.

But now, as they looked at the young woman before them—her delicate features like blooming peach blossoms, her eyebrows like distant mountains, her sparkling eyes, and her fair skin—they exchanged a glance and silently agreed: *She really is breathtakingly beautiful.*

What a shame…

A shame that she was already married, and to Sheng Zexi, that sharp-tongued, jade-faced King of Hell no less. Otherwise, they would have definitely tried their luck.

After all, what man wouldn’t want to marry a talented, fairy-like wife?

“Are you Dr. Gu Jianing?” Zhou Chiyuan, one of the young male doctors, stood up and asked politely.

“Yes, I’m Gu Jianing.”

“We’ve long heard that Dr. Gu was assigned to our department. It’s truly wonderful to have someone as talented as you joining us in TCM.”

“Dr. Gu, let me take you to complete the onboarding procedures and give you an overview of our department.”

“Alright, thank you for your help.”

Through the introductions, Gu Jianing learned that aside from her, there were only three other doctors in the TCM department.

The one who had spoken to her first was Dr. Zhou Chiyuan, and the other was named Lu Jin.

Zhou Chiyuan was now guiding her through the onboarding process.

“Dr. Zhou, so there are only four doctors in our TCM department?” Gu Jianing asked.

That seemed rather few.

Zhou Chiyuan understood the implication in her words and nodded, explaining, “In the military hospital, the most popular departments with the most doctors are: Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Pediatrics.”

“As for our TCM department… well, we’re pretty much at the bottom.”

Gu Jianing thought for a moment and quickly understood the reason.

After all, in this era, some people still dismissed TCM as superstitious. Moreover, TCM treatments were more cumbersome, requiring herbal decoctions and multiple days of consumption, whereas Western medicine only needed a few small pills.

This was why most people nowadays preferred Western medicine.

But Gu Jianing believed that the legacy of TCM must not be broken.

TCM was no less effective than Western medicine—in fact, for some conditions, Western medicine had no solution, while TCM did.

Besides, TCM was a national tradition, and traditions should never be forgotten.

In the Divine Doctor Space, most of the teachers who had instructed her were legendary TCM physicians from ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad.

Their miraculous medical skills, capable of turning decay into wonder, had left Gu Jianing in awe.

She thought that if possible, she would like to carry forward and preserve the essence of this TCM tradition.

So even though Zhou Chiyuan said that the TCM department was unpopular and quiet, with few patients willing to seek treatment there, Gu Jianing had no regrets about being assigned here.

“Dr. Gu, this will be your office.”

Since the TCM department didn’t have many doctors and space was relatively ample, each physician could have their own private office. Though not very large, it at least provided some personal space.

Unlike departments like Surgery or Obstetrics & Gynecology, where multiple doctors shared a single office, here each physician had their own space.

“Thank you, Dr. Zhou.”

“You’re welcome.”

Gu Jianing glanced around the office—it seemed to have been cleaned in advance. Though not large, it was neat and tidy.

*Zhou Chiyuan thought to himself: Of course it’s clean. Elder Chen repeatedly reminded me and Old Lu to make sure this office was spotless.*

“By the way, Dr. Zhou, you mentioned there are four doctors in our TCM department, including me. So, who is the fourth…?” Gu Jianing hadn’t seen anyone else.

“The fourth is Elder Chen.”

“Elder Chen?” Not *Dr. Chen*, but *Elder Chen*? That wasn’t a title given lightly. Moreover, Gu Jianing could see the deep respect and admiration in Zhou Chiyuan’s eyes when he spoke of this man.

“Dr. Gu, do you know how you ended up in our TCM department?”

“Hmm?”

“I was assigned here.”

Seeing her clueless expression, Zhou Chiyuan hesitated before asking, “Then, how do you feel about being in our TCM department?”

“I think it’s great. I like it here.” Gu Jianing answered honestly.

Sensing that Gu Jianing wasn’t just saying it to be polite, Zhou Chiyuan let out a breath of relief, then quietly added, “Actually, Director Shu originally planned to assign you to either the surgery department or obstetrics and gynecology. The doctors in both departments had been hoping you’d join them. But it was Elder Chen who stepped in and personally requested you.”

Gu Jianing blinked, stunned.

*Elder Chen… I don’t think I know him. Why would he want me in the TCM department?*

“Elder Chen is the founder of our military hospital and its first Director. He’s now seventy years old, and his TCM skills are extraordinary—rumor has it he once treated top national leaders.”

“After retiring, Elder Chen stayed in our TCM department as a specialist consultant. He rarely takes on patients these days.”

Many speculated that the reason Elder Chen refused to leave was that he was searching for a worthy disciple to inherit his medical legacy. Unfortunately, he hadn’t found the right candidate yet.

Zhou Chiyuan studied Gu Jianing. Since Elder Chen had personally requested her transfer and she was said to be highly talented, could it be that he intended to take her as his disciple?

Zhou Chiyuan wasn’t sure, so he didn’t mention it.

But he thought, *If Dr. Gu really becomes Elder Chen’s disciple, she’ll be incredibly lucky. Her future path would be set.*

Elder Chen’s vast connections and deep background went far beyond just being the hospital’s founder.

Back in the day, both he and Lu Jin had hoped to become Elder Chen’s disciples, but the old man had deemed them unworthy.

“There must be a reason Elder Chen brought you to our department. I’m not entirely sure what it is—maybe he hopes you can help elevate our TCM department.”

Gu Jianing nodded in understanding. Though she hadn’t met Elder Chen yet and didn’t know why he had transferred her here, it certainly wasn’t a bad thing for her.

Moreover, from what Dr. Zhou implied, this Elder Chen had considerable influence. Building a good relationship with him would only be beneficial—after all, having another powerful connection was never a bad thing.

After finishing the onboarding procedures and explanations, Zhou Chiyuan returned to his own office.

And with that, Gu Jianing officially began her career at the military hospital—as Dr. Gu.
