Lin Nan discovered a herd of horses.
Deep in the grasslands.
His whole body trembled with excitement, his eyes burning as he fixed them on the sturdy, chestnut-red stallion at the head of the herd.
Only a horse with great strength and untamed spirit could become the leader.
“I’m going to tame that one!”
He had seen the photo album—his mother had once tamed a black horse on the grasslands, and it had been incredibly handsome.
He had inherited his mother’s strength. The moment he saw this herd of wild horses, his first instinct was also to tame one.
Lin Bei: “Just be careful.”
Lin Nan tossed his camera to his brother, then shot forward like a sleek, powerful leopard.
His sudden appearance startled the herd, and they began to run faster.
Lin Nan trained regularly at home, including with weighted cross-country runs. His legs burst with explosive power as he sprinted after them.
Incredibly, he actually caught up—but not to the leader.
With a leap, he landed on the back of a horse in the middle. The frightened animal neighed wildly and thrashed.
Lin Nan clamped his legs tightly against its belly, wrapped his arms around its neck, and adjusted his balance so he wouldn’t be thrown off.
The panicked horse bolted even faster, galloping straight ahead.
But that suited Lin Nan just fine.
As they closed in on the lead stallion, he vaulted again—landing squarely on the chestnut-red leader’s back.
The strong stallion bucked ferociously. Lin Nan felt that if he hadn’t been gripping so tightly, he’d already have been flung into the air—and if he hit the ground, the horse might just trample him with a single deadly hoof.
Hiss…
If he were stepped on, it would be disastrous—serious injury at best, death at worst.
Man and stallion wrestled stubbornly, neither willing to yield.
Just like Song Wei back then, Lin Nan finally relied on sheer brute strength to force the horse down onto the ground.
The chestnut-red steed lay panting heavily, utterly exhausted.
The rest of the herd circled nearby but didn’t dare approach.
Lin Nan, a bit disheveled, patted the horse and laughed heartily.
“Didn’t I say I could do it?”
Though his strength wasn’t quite on his mother’s level, he was still born with remarkable power.
Lin Nan had successfully tamed a horse, and he proudly rode it back.
When Lin Zhen and Song Wei learned of it, neither scolded him.
Lin Zhen simply said, “As long as you can guarantee your safety, you can do whatever you want.”
Lin Nan beamed a wide grin.
Everyone else gathered around the stallion, marveling at it.
The twin sisters clamored to ride the big horse.
Fearing it wouldn’t allow it, they fed it plenty of treats first.
The horse was friendly enough toward the two soft, little girls, but not toward the other adults—it wouldn’t even let them touch it.
Its pride was evident.
Looking at the stallion, Song Wei couldn’t help but think of the horse she had once tamed herself.
No one knew where it had run off to now.
“Mom, can we catch a horse too?”
Little Xiaoxiao, small as she was, had a big wish. Her bright, pretty eyes sparkled as she stared at Song Wei.
Yueyue also looked at her expectantly.
Song Wei: “I’ll find you an even prettier animal.”
The sisters perked up with interest: “What is it?”
What Song Wei intended to find for them was a species unique to the grasslands—
the Tibetan wild ass.
The Tibetan wild ass was very beautiful, with chestnut-red fur on its back and white on its belly.
They were shorter than horses, but fluffy and strikingly delicate in appearance.
After deliberately searching for two days, they finally found a herd of wild asses.
Yueyue and Xiaoxiao raised their binoculars, and when they saw the Tibetan wild asses, they both cried out in excitement.
“They’re really so beautiful!”
The Tibetan wild asses were indeed beautiful. Lin Zhen and Song Wei then demonstrated to everyone what it meant to be true powerhouses.
Especially Song Wei.
Since having children, and with the later success of the tea garden and goji berry fields, they had money. She no longer needed to go hunting in the mountains—buying meat was easier.
It had been a long time since Song Wei had made a move.
The two of them, agile and swift, charged into the herd, picking out three half-grown wild asses that were particularly adorable.
Song Wei subdued one with a single hand and swiftly tied it up with the rope she had prepared.
Then she darted forward again and pinned down a second one.
Lin Zhen only had time to catch one.
Amid the panicked calls of the captured three, the herd scattered.
They had successfully caught three wild asses.
The others quickly gathered around, and the boys exclaimed in awe.
“Dad, Mom, you’re both incredible!”
Their two little cousins were also dumbfounded as they looked at their older cousin. Their father had never told them that their cousin was actually this powerful!
Was that strength even human? And she was a woman at that.
“There are only three, so the three kids can take turns riding them. But when it’s time to go back, we can’t bring them along. We’ll have to return them to their herd.”
Although the wild ass herd had suffered an ambush from these two merciless humans, their territory was here, and they wouldn’t leave easily.
When it was time to head back, they would come again to release the three captured ones.
Yueyue and Xiaoxiao had already taken out bean dregs cakes to feed the wild asses.
The animals were still frightened and didn’t eat.
But the two little girls were skilled at soothing animals. Even the third wild ass—the one their little cousin had clumsily failed to calm—was coaxed into settling down by them.
A few hours later, the three unlucky little wild asses drank water—salt water.
Salt was irresistibly attractive to wild herbivores.
Before long, the three had finished every drop of the salty water and eaten the bean-dreg-and-grass feed Yueyue and Xiaoxiao had given them.
By nightfall, no one worried the three wild asses would run off.
Because… the surrounding wolves, bear, and dogs all kept watch with hungry eyes.
The three half-grown wild asses trembled in fear.
