Song Wei revisited an old place, starting with the former territory of the Pallas’s cat.
Unfortunately, she didn’t see the familiar Pallas’s cat.
Perhaps they had died, or perhaps they had left their old territory for another.
Though a little regretful, she was mentally prepared for this.
“Mom, a fox, there’s a fox over there!”
“Yip?”
The fat fox perked up its head. Where? Where? Let it see what foxes lived on this great grassland.
Its foxy eyes looked in the direction Lin Bei pointed, and then locked eyes with a broad, square face.
Fat Fox: ………
No, it absolutely refused to acknowledge that this strangely ugly broad face belonged to its fox kin.
Wouldn’t that drag down the entire fox clan’s beauty standards?
“Hahaha… I know, that’s a Tibetan fox. It’s really ugly, hahaha…”
Lin Nan laughed as he spoke.
The Tibetan fox had a broad, square face but a relatively skinny body, giving it an odd and awkward “ugly-cute” vibe.
This was truly the low point of looks in the fox world.
The Tibetan fox stared at them from a distance, seemingly assessing whether there was danger.
Seeing that they only pointed at it from afar without approaching, it went back to hunting.
Though not much to look at, the Tibetan fox’s hunting skills were excellent.
In just a moment, it came trotting back with two pikas in its mouth.
Xiao Nan raised the camera: “I’ll follow it and take a look.”
Song Wei wasn’t worried. Their children had been around animals since they were little and often went into the mountains. They naturally knew how to get along with animals without startling them.
Only Xiao Nan went after it—no one else followed.
Too many people would only scare the Tibetan fox away.
They continued wandering the grasslands, and when they came across a slope perfect for grass-sliding, Song Wei, bold as ever, yanked a wooden board, tossed it onto the ground, stepped on it with both feet, and slid straight down the incline.
The slope was covered in grass, making the slide smooth and resistance-free.
Without balance and guts, no one would dare try it.
“Wow, Mom, you’re amazing! Mom, I want to, I want to slide too!”
Lin Zhen went off to find some sticks and boards to build a safer little sled.
At the bottom of the slope, people were waiting to catch them.
The little girls sat on the sled, whizzing down with the wind blowing through their hair. Instead of being scared, they burst out in delighted laughter.
Children’s laughter was infectious—soon the adults watching were laughing along as well.
At that moment, no one had any worries.
At the bottom of the slope, Lin Zhen caught his two daughters as they shouted that they wanted to go again.
At some point, Xiongzi had come running too. It plopped its belly down on the ground, gave a push with its chubby paws, and slid straight down the grass.
“Wow! Xiongzi, Xiongzi, take me with you!”
Xiaoxiao climbed right onto Xiongzi’s back.
With its thick skin and sturdy body, the little friction from the grass was nothing more than a tickle to it.
For Xiaoxiao’s safety, Xiongzi lay on its back this time, placing her on its big, round belly.
Xiaoxiao lay on its soft, springy stomach, even happier as they slid down together.
Yueyue: “I want to too—Xiongzi, it’s my turn next.”
Feng Tingxuan’s younger son also wanted to lie on Xiongzi’s back and slide down.
As for his older son, he was simply too big for Xiongzi to carry, so he could only watch longingly from the side.
After a few rounds, the children grew tired. Sliding down was fun, but climbing back up had to be done with their own legs. The slope was quite large, and it took them a good while to reach the top each time. Soon, their energy was spent.
“Mom, the grassland is so much fun! How long can we play here?”
Song Wei: “Only for one month.”
Once they had played enough, they found a spot to roast meat.
But the children remained most fascinated by the many animals on the grassland.
At night, the wolf pack and dog pack returned, bringing prey with them.
It was a wild yellow sheep—
a lamb.
Perhaps because it was still young, the mutton didn’t smell too gamey.
Several men butchered the lamb, planning to cook it the next day.
The tents beneath the vast grassland looked tiny. Two families sat around the bonfire. Above them, the night sky glittered with countless stars, brightening the dark sky curtain like a glowing piece of obsidian—stunningly beautiful.
Some sat, some lay down, while wolves, dogs, or even the bear leaned against the people. The wind carried the howls of distant wolves, making their own wolf pack prick up their ears.
Lin Bei played the flute. Perhaps influenced by the openness of the grassland, even his notes carried a sense of grandeur.
Lin Bei was a top student—not only in academics but in many other areas as well.
For example, music.
He could play many instruments: flute, xiao, piano, and violin.
At school, he was undoubtedly a campus heartthrob.
Lin Nan also had a favorite instrument, though his was the drum set.
Their villa in the city was filled with various instruments.
Even Yueyue and Xiaoxiao had their own hobbies.
At that moment, the two little girls sang and danced to the tune of their brother’s flute.
Though it was just children’s dances, the adults gave them plenty of encouragement and affection.
Muna was full of admiration: “Yueyue and Xiaoxiao dance so well. If only I had two beautiful daughters like that—it would be wonderful.”
Not only Muna loved them—Feng Tingxuan did too.
When they were expecting their second child, the couple had always hoped for a little girl.
But alas, what they got was a boy.
Still, with Feng Tingxuan’s gentle elegance and Muna’s exotic beauty, their sons looked almost like mixed-race children.
Especially the younger one, who was exceptionally delicate and pretty. Put him in a little dress, and he could easily pass for a girl.
“Tonight the moon and stars are so beautiful—let’s take a group photo together!”
The proposal was met with unanimous agreement.
Lin Nan set up the tripod not far away, framing the shot to include not only the people but also the animals.
The wolves looked stern and majestic, the dogs leaned cozily against their owners with mouths that seemed to be smiling, and the wolfhounds sprawled near the parents.
The fat fox, as always, acted spoiled and squeezed itself between Wolf One and Wolf Two.
Xiongzi, being the biggest and roundest, stood at the very back.
On Song Wei’s arm perched a pure white eagle, steady and proud.
Beside her was Lin Zhen, holding her by the waist, while their two daughters stood in front.
“All set!”
The moonlight was bright tonight. Even in the darkness, both people and animals could be seen clearly.
Once the timer was set, Lin Nan quickly rushed to the front, crouching alongside Lin Bei and Feng Tingxuan’s eldest son, with their younger cousin joining them in a half-squat at the very front.
Everyone’s faces carried the most genuine, joyous smiles—
and the camera captured that moment forever.
