Lin Zhen was puzzled when he saw Dahei returning alone. Feng Tingxuan, on the other hand, grew anxious, worried that something might have happened to his niece.
“What’s wrong? Why didn’t my niece come back? Did something happen?”
He immediately wanted to ride out to look for her.
But Lin Zhen noticed the bag tied to Dahei’s back.
He took it down and opened it, finding a note inside:
‘Took down a yak, come quick.’
Lin Zhen: “……”
Of course. Even if the yak was in trouble, she certainly wouldn’t be.
His expression was already somewhat numb. His partner was so capable that it made him feel a bit useless in comparison.
He handed the note to Feng Tingxuan.
“Take a look. I’ll go borrow a cart from the squad leader.”
After reading the note, Feng Tingxuan was utterly stunned.
Took down a yak—was it the kind of yak he was thinking of?
Just where had his niece been training? This was beyond impressive.
Lin Zhen returned with a cart, but this time, instead of using a horse to pull it, he opted for an ox.
Yu Wei, curious, tagged along. “What’s going on this time that you need an ox-drawn cart?”
Lin Zhen kept it vague. “You’ll find out when we get there.”
As they were about to leave, Feng Tingxuan stared at them eagerly, wanting to join.
Thanks to the good food lately, he had gained some weight, and the deficiencies in his health had mostly been replenished.
Now looking quite handsome, his pitiful expression was hard to resist.
After some thought, Yu Wei arranged for a herdsman to temporarily take over Feng Tingxuan’s duties and brought him along.
After all, he was Song Wei’s uncle, and given how capable Song Wei was, it was worth fostering a good relationship.
Yu Wei had assumed that after the last incident with the wolves, nothing Song Wei did would shock him anymore.
But he had clearly overestimated himself.
When he saw the yak, his mind went completely blank.
A yak!!!
Such a huge, unmistakable yak—that was an incredible amount of meat!
This herding trip had subjected him to one shock after another.
Horses, wolves, snow leopards, and now a yak.
At this point, if someone told him Song Wei could fly to the heavens, he’d believe it!
Song Wei’s small frame looked even tinier next to the massive yak.
Yet, despite her size, she had managed to drag the enormous beast quite a distance.
Spotting Lin Zhen and the others, she waved cheerfully, her face breaking into a bright, sunny smile.
“Hurry up and deal with the blood trail. Also, the guys following me are so annoying. If not for having to clean up the trail, I’d have made it back to camp by now.”
Feng Tingxuan, still on horseback, felt dazed.
“Is this really my niece? Since when was my niece this incredible?”
Although he had been busy with work and hadn’t spent much time with his niece, every time he returned home, she had always been a quiet, well-mannered young lady.
But this… this was nothing like the refined girl he remembered!
Lin Zhen’s eyes flickered slightly at his words. Then, in a calm tone, he explained:
“She was bullied in the countryside before, so she pestered me to teach her some self-defense skills. She has incredible talent—the best I’ve ever seen—and she was already naturally strong. Back in the mountains, she even took down a wild boar once, so this isn’t too surprising.”
It was a way to smooth things over for Song Wei.
He knew the current Song Wei wasn’t the same as before.
But as for who she really was now, she would tell him when she fully trusted him.
All Lin Zhen knew was that she wasn’t a spy and wouldn’t harm the country.
Besides, Song Wei wasn’t wearing any disguises like artificial skin masks, and investigations showed no signs of her being replaced. The whole thing was baffling, but she had dropped a few hints.
For example—her body was still Song Wei’s.
His relationship with her was partly because he genuinely liked her, but also because being close to her allowed him to observe her more carefully.
Apart from her love for food, her extraordinary skills, and her combat style—which had traces of military training but wasn’t quite the same—she didn’t act suspiciously in any other way.
She had never hidden her uniqueness from him, facing everything openly, which made him feel at ease and only added to her charm.
Feng Tingxuan didn’t dwell on it too much. After dismounting, he circled the yak in awe.
“It’s huge—how did you kill it?”
Yu Wei chimed in, “Wild yaks are notoriously aggressive. Did you just slit its throat?”
Yaks weren’t just heavy and strong—their hides were thick.
Even a grown man with a knife wouldn’t be able to make such a deep cut.
And that was if the yak stood still and let him.
Song Wei shook her head. “No, I smashed it to death. Probably fractured its skull.”
Yu Wei’s jaw nearly hit the ground.
“Smashed it?!”
Since when were yak skulls that fragile?!
Lin Zhen stepped forward. “Let’s load the yak onto the cart first and head back. I’ll handle the blood trail and the animals following us.”
Yu Wei slapped his thigh. “We should’ve brought more people. How are we supposed to move something this big—”
Before he could finish, Song Wei grabbed the yak’s horns, bent slightly, and with a powerful heave—
She lifted the yak, all seven or eight hundred kilograms of it.
In one swift motion, she turned and hurled the massive corpse onto the cart.
Thankfully, she controlled the force, or the cart might’ve shattered under the impact.
Yu Wei’s eyes bulged, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.
Song Wei dusted her hands off. “Alright, let’s go.”
When she turned and saw the two men completely frozen in shock, she blinked at Lin Zhen.
‘Did I overdo it?’
Lin Zhen: “……”
‘What do you think?’
Honestly, even he was a little stunned.
He’d always known Song Wei was strong, but he had no idea how strong.
The biggest wild boar she’d taken down before was only about 200-250 kilograms—nothing compared to this yak.
Lin Zhen’s mood was complicated.
From now on, he’d have to be very careful not to upset her.
One punch from her, and he’d be a goner.
