Standing on the shore, Song Wei looked utterly exasperated.
A massive black shadow had suddenly rushed toward her, knocking her off her feet and nearly making her throw up.
No one, including Song Wei, had expected such a scene.
“Ahhh!”
“Song Wei, are you okay?”
The scream came from one of the aunties who had been chatting with Song Wei earlier while digging for clams.
Song Jing immediately dashed forward to help his sister up.
Grimacing, Song Wei stood, clutching her chest. “I’m fine.”
The collision had left her chest aching, though.
She looked at the orca that had just leapt back onto the shore with an expression that defied description.
Everyone else wore similar expressions.
Seriously, was this fish stupid?
It had finally waited for a big wave to come in, yet instead of rushing back into the ocean, it had barreled straight back onto the shore.
“Does it not want to go back into the ocean?”
“Should we just eat it instead?”
Song Wei glanced at the massive fish and sighed. “Let me try again.”
One of the fishermen chuckled awkwardly. “Well, it’s just a baby orca. Maybe it really isn’t very smart.”
The military wives rolled their eyes. A baby? This huge thing?
Song Wei gave it another go, this time ensuring the orca’s head faced the ocean.
A crowd surrounded her as she worked. Even though they had already seen her strength once, the sight of her singlehandedly dragging the massive orca again left them all utterly speechless.
Unable to hold back, the political commissar turned to Song Jing and asked, “Is your sister always this strong?”
Song Jing nodded. “She’s always had a bit of strength.”
A bit of strength? That was the understatement of the century.
This time, a wave surged in, and the goofy orca finally made its way back into the water.
Those with sharp eyes watched as the orca happily swam toward its pod. However, as soon as it reached the group, a much larger orca smacked it hard with its tail.
The slap was so forceful that the smaller orca was briefly launched out of the water before crashing back down with a loud splash.
Everyone onshore heard the crisp sound of the slap.
The aunties stared wide-eyed.
“Wow… Even fish in the ocean discipline their kids like this?”
It was eerily similar to how they handled their own children—if a kid misbehaved or caused trouble, they’d get a good beating as soon as they got home.
Now they fully believed what the fishermen had said earlier: these large fish definitely held grudges.
After all, if someone had harmed one of their children, they would hold a grudge too.
“That orca is huge.”
“When I get home, I’m definitely telling Shuanzi and the others all about this.”
Ah, so he just wanted to brag.
If only she had a camera—she could have taken a picture of the orca. Heidan would have loved showing it off to his friends, and maybe they could have even posed for a group photo with the orca.
Such a photo might have even been featured in the newspaper!
The idea of buying a camera took root in Song Wei’s mind. She wanted to capture the beauty of this world, preserving its landscapes and memories.
During the apocalypse, many survivors often reminisced about the pre-apocalyptic world. Photos from those times were treasured and kept safe.
Song Wei resolved to discuss the idea of buying a camera with Lin Zhen. They could use it to document the scenery, the wolves’ growth, and even their own moments together.
The orca incident remained a hot topic among the locals and military wives. As the story spread, so did the tale of Song Wei’s extraordinary strength.
Some exaggerated accounts even claimed that she could lift a mountain.
When the soldiers heard these wild rumors, they ran to Song Jing, asking if his sister really had such incredible strength.
Song Jing, exasperated, retorted, “Do you even have a brain? Why would you believe such nonsense? No one can lift a mountain. Why don’t you go try it yourself?”
Embarrassed, the soldiers slunk away.
The rumors became so absurd that they ultimately backfired, making people skeptical of Song Wei’s strength altogether.
Unaware of these developments, Song Wei returned home, took a hot bath, and changed into fresh clothes. She kneaded dough for bread, letting it rise, while trimming sea urchin spines with scissors.
When Lin Zhen returned, he brought a large bone for the wolves, who eagerly gnawed on it.
Following him into the kitchen, Song Wei recounted the day’s events, including the orca drama.
“Do you think we should buy a camera?”
“I’ll ask my brother if we can get a ticket for one.”
Lin Zhen replied after a moment of thought, “That’s a great idea. Once we have a camera, I’ll take pictures of you every day.”
“Film isn’t free, you know. Let’s not waste it.”
She added, “Since we’re here, I’d love to capture some photos of the sea.”
Lin Zhen nodded. “Alright, let’s get one.”
“I’ll also see if I can find a ticket for it.”
Not prying into Lin Zhen’s activities for the day, Song Wei enjoyed a delicious dinner.
The next morning, she took the two wolf cubs for a walk.
The nearby beach was frequented mainly by fishermen. Waking up early, Song Wei carried a bucket and took the wolves out, casually collecting sea goods as they strolled.
Hei Dan trotted behind her, bundled up in a scarf.
“Are you cold?” she asked.
Shaking his head, Hei Dan replied loudly, “Nope! It’s not as cold as back home!”
Smiling, Song Wei patted his head. “When summer comes, let’s visit again. I’ll have my brother teach you how to swim in the ocean.”
Bright-eyed, Hei Dan nodded eagerly, already looking forward to it.
Back home, Lin Zhen had already prepared breakfast by the time they returned.
Afterward, Song Wei sought out Song Jing to discuss finding a camera ticket, while Lin Zhen went out again.
When Song Jing heard her idea, he didn’t dismiss it as frivolous or unnecessary. Instead, he enthusiastically began helping her search for a ticket.
Just then, Aunty Lian approached, linking arms with Song Wei.
“Song Wei, you were incredible yesterday! How are you so strong? You pushed that massive fish all by yourself!”
“I came back and told them, but they didn’t believe it.”
There were several aunts that Song Wei had never met with Aunt Lian. After Aunt Lian introduced them, Song Wei greeted them one by one.
“You must be Song Jing’s sister,” said a young woman warmly, stepping closer. “No wonder—you’re just as good-looking as him.”
