1980s: Sickly Educated Youth Raising Cubs in the Countryside Chapter 161: Infuriating Xu Laidi

Everyone was stunned, unable to believe how combative Su Fang had become.

Wait a minute—if she had this kind of fighting spirit before, would the Luo family have been able to bully her so badly?

Still, thinking about all the suffering she endured—miscarriage and nearly being trampled by a wild boar—it kind of made sense.

Even the softest person has a breaking point. Even a rabbit will bite when cornered.

Song Wei nodded in satisfaction. It seemed she no longer had to worry about Su Fang being bullied.

The others, sensing there was no more drama to watch, returned to their respective rooms, leaving only Xu Laidi and Su Fang in the shared dormitory.

Su Fang busied herself with making her bed, completely ignoring Xu Laidi’s darkened face and the constant stream of snide, sarcastic comments thrown her way.

This was nothing to her. Compared to the vicious insults she had endured from her mother-in-law in the Luo family, Xu Laidi’s petty remarks barely registered.

Xu Laidi eventually lost interest when Su Fang continued to remain unaffected. Feeling triumphant, she assumed Su Fang’s earlier boldness had been a mere act, now deflated with Song Wei and the others gone.

But when her insults turned toward Song Wei, Bai Yunjiao, and the other educated youths, Su Fang abruptly stopped what she was doing.

Xu Laidi sneered, “You don’t actually believe those people are genuinely helping you, do you? They’re all fake and hypocritical! And that Song Wei? She’s just a shameless flirt, using her looks to seduce Lin Zhen. He’s blind if he thinks he won’t regret it later!”

At that moment, Su Fang turned and walked toward Xu Laidi’s bed. Before the stunned Xu Laidi could react, Su Fang grabbed her blanket and yanked it off, sending the entire bed into disarray.

“Ah! What are you doing? Are you crazy?!” Xu Laidi shrieked, her voice piercing the night.

Su Fang’s expression turned eerily sinister as she replied, “Yes, I’m crazy!”

Her voice dropped to a chilling tone. “Xu Laidi, didn’t I tell you before? The doctor said my emotions are unstable, and I might act irrationally. Didn’t you hear me?”

Xu Laidi paled. She had no idea Su Fang would flip into madness so quickly.

“You… You’re doing this on purpose!”

When Xu Laidi raised her hand to hit her, Su Fang immediately collapsed to the floor, convulsing as if in a seizure. The sight was horrifying.

“It wasn’t me! It’s not my fault!” Xu Laidi screamed, recoiling in terror. She turned and bolted from the room, shouting as she ran, “I can’t live with this lunatic! Someone get her out of here!”

The commotion quickly roused everyone in the educated youth dormitory.

Liu Linlin, carrying a basin of foot-washing water, was the first to appear, glaring at Xu Laidi. “What’s your problem, Xu Laidi? It’s the middle of the night! We’re trying to sleep, and you’re making a racket! Don’t make me dump this water on you!”

Song Wei leaned casually against the doorframe, calmly eating sunflower seeds as if watching a thrilling drama unfold.

Behind her, Heidan poked his head out, intrigued by the commotion. Even the two little wolf pups joined in, running around excitedly.

“I’m not living with Su Fang anymore! She’s sick and crazy, and I don’t want her insanity infecting me!” Xu Laidi yelled, pointing toward the shared room.

However, Xu Laidi’s past antics had tarnished her reputation. Nobody believed her. Instead, her words only drew disapproving glares.

Li Juan frowned, stepping forward. “Xu Laidi, the dormitory is for all of us. Su Fang is one of us. She’s already in poor health after everything she’s been through. How can you talk about her like that? If someone overhears, who knows what rumors might start?”

Bai Yunjiao’s voice was soft yet pointed. “Xu Laidi, weren’t you the one always saying we educated youths should support each other? Su Fang has suffered enough already. Instead of helping her, you’re isolating her. Isn’t that wrong?”

Xu Laidi’s face turned red with frustration. Those words she once used to gain sympathy were now being used against her.

Before she could retort, Su Fang emerged from the room, standing timidly at the door.

“I’m sorry, Xu Laidi. I shouldn’t have talked back when you insulted me,” Su Fang said softly. “But… But why did you have to drag others into it? They’ve been nothing but kind to me—they’re not the hypocrites you claim they are.”

Xu Laidi’s mouth opened and closed, her rage boiling over.

“You—”

Before she could finish, Liu Linlin cut her off with a sarcastic tone. “So helping others is ‘hypocrisy’ now? Then what about all the times we helped you, Xu Laidi? Did you think we were idiots back then, too?”

“Ungrateful,” Liu Linlin spat. “I bet when we gave you things in the past, you took them with a smile but cursed us behind our backs for not giving enough.”

Everyone nodded in agreement, their disdain for Xu Laidi growing.

The harsh words and collective rejection left Xu Laidi feeling wronged and humiliated, even if some of the accusations were true.

Out of options, she turned her anger back on Su Fang. “You little tramp! You—”

Before she could continue, Su Fang staggered, her face pale, and promptly fainted.

Li Juan, who was closest, rushed to catch her.

“What happened? Someone call the barefoot doctor!”

“Su Fang, are you okay?”

Song Wei walked over and pressed Su Fang’s philtrum. Moments later, Su Fang slowly opened her eyes, looking weak and fragile.

“Sorry to trouble everyone,” she murmured. “It’s nothing serious, just an old problem—malnutrition, coupled with everything that’s happened…”

Her voice trailed off, but the sympathy in everyone’s eyes said enough.

Song Wei chewed her sunflower seeds thoughtfully. Was Su Fang’s performance better than mine? This kind of dramatic fainting act—I’ve never done it this well.

Su Fang insisted she was fine and declined to call the doctor, not wanting to trouble anyone further.

Liu Linlin shot a glare at Xu Laidi. “This is all your fault! You knew Su Fang’s health was fragile, yet you couldn’t stop stirring up trouble. Can’t you go one day without causing drama? You’re the reason our dormitory has a bad reputation!”

Xu Laidi, trembling with rage, shouted, “She’s faking it! If you don’t believe me, go check the room—she threw everything off my bed!”
