Song Wei rolled her eyes and didn’t respond.
A day passed, and I don’t know if it was the effect of the ginseng chicken soup, but Su Fang’s condition had greatly improved by the next day.
She was even able to get out of bed and walk.
Seeing this, Song Wei felt better too; it seemed like Su Fang might be able to go home today.
She certainly preferred going back over staying in the hospital.
During breakfast, she still argued with the exceptionally bizarre old woman.
She was almost so angry at Song Wei that she was hospitalized.
Seeing that she was unhappy, Song Wei felt a little better.
However, this good mood lasted only until the morning.
The old woman’s son came to the hospital.
Song Wei had been napping beside Su Fang’s bed but wasn’t in a deep sleep.
She heard when the old woman and her son entered.
Seeing that Song Jing, wasn’t there and with her son supporting her, the old woman immediately started complaining to him, as though she had found a strong backer.
In her words, everything was Song Wei’s fault.
The man was tall, and his temper was probably a result of growing up in a patriarchal family, his size was much larger than most people’s.
Upon hearing his mother’s words, he immediately shot an angry glare at Song Wei, who was lying on the bed. It wasn’t that he was especially filial, but rather that he was upset about losing face.
“Damn it! How dare you bully my old mother? Get up!”
Song Wei opened her eyes and sat up. “Is there a problem?”
“Apologize to my mother!”
The old woman smugly added, “And pay compensation!”
Upon hearing his mother, the man’s eyes lit up, his attitude growing fiercer.
He glared at Song Wei.
“Yes, pay up! You can’t just bully my mother like this. Otherwise, I’ll beat you to death!”
The other people in the room couldn’t watch anymore and tried to intervene. But as soon as they spoke, the man glared at them. “Mind your own business. If you don’t, I’ll beat all of you!”
The old woman, instead of being ashamed, puffed out her chest and shouted back.
She smugly said, “This is the benefit of having a son. My son is here to back me up. You young girls can’t compare. You say I favor boys over girls but don’t you all want a son or grandson?”
Although her words were shameless, most of the people in the room agreed with her.
In this era, people still valued sons. It wasn’t just because men inherited family names and carried on the family line, but also because having a man in the family meant there was someone to back them up if they were wronged.
Especially for girls who were married, having brothers in the family could help them fight back if they were mistreated at their in-laws’.
Of course, some families didn’t care about their daughters and even used their daughters’ dowries to please others; this situation was actually quite common.
“Pay up. Without at least two or three hundred, this won’t be settled!”
Song Wei mocked, “Is your family begging now?”
The man was furious. “You little brat, I’ll kill you!”
As he spoke, he raised his hand to slap Song Wei.
Everyone in the room widened their eyes, “Stop!”
Su Fang also rushed to her feet, wanting to help Song Wei.
But unfortunately, the man was not someone who could be reasoned with.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Song Wei didn’t cower in fear when a big man like him came at her.
The small girl skillfully dodged his slap with a swift side step. D
Since he had made the first move, she didn’t hold back either.
She grabbed his hand and twisted it, then kicked him in the stomach.
Song Wei felt a bit excited; she was getting bored in the hospital, and here someone had come to entertain her.
The kick wasn’t too light or too heavy, but to everyone’s surprise, the man let out a scream, stumbling backward, knocking his mother down as they both crashed to the ground.
“Ouch, ouch! It hurts so much…”
The old woman, pinned under her son, cried out in pain. She felt like her old bones were going to break under his weight.
But the man was in worse pain, his arm and stomach throbbing in agony.
The pregnant woman, who had been lying quietly in bed, now shrieked and rushed over.
“What did you hit my husband for!”
The room was in chaos, and the culprit, Song Wei, patted her chest, feigning shock, speaking innocently.
“Sorry, I have a lot of strength. You scared me earlier, and I reflexively fought back. Are you okay?”
The family started cursing loudly in their local dialect, and it sounded filthy.
Song Wei squinted her eyes, debating whether to take the opportunity to deal with them further when the doctor arrived.
Song Wei quickly put away her thoughts and assumed the role of the victim, “Doctor, you finally arrived.”
Seeing the scene of chaos in the room, the doctor’s face darkened.
“What are you doing here, still causing trouble? This is a hospital, not a place for you to fight!”
Song Wei responded, “I didn’t want this! I was having a good nap when they woke me up. Not only did they try to extort money from me, but they also wanted to hit me. If I hadn’t reacted quickly, that slap would have landed right on me! He’s so big, picking on a little girl like me-how shameless! You can ask anyone here, he was the one who wanted to hit me first.”
People in this time were still warm-hearted and willing to help, and with Song Wei’s good attitude, the doctor didn’t say anything bad about her.
“What’s wrong with your family? This isn’t the first time you’ve caused trouble in a hospital, right?”
The man, holding his arm, stood up. He didn’t seem to be in as much pain now, but he felt humiliated. He was used to being the boss in his family, and now he couldn’t even beat a little girl. Worse yet, the doctor had reprimanded him, which made his temper flare.
“I don’t need you to tell me what to do! Who the hell do you think you are?”
“You’re just siding with that little brat. If you keep talking, I’ll slap you too!”
The doctor was so angry that his fingers trembled.
In contrast, Song Wei was calm and had admitted her wrongdoing. Her attitude was good, and everyone could see that the family was arrogant. The doctor looked at them even more unfavorably.
“Call the police!”
He didn’t believe this family of hooligans could get away with it!
“You dare!”
The man glared fiercely, about to lash out.
Song Wei’s eyes lit up; she was just waiting for the chance to deal with him.
“Doctor, be careful!”
Song Wei shouted suddenly, her tone, carried a hint of excitement.
“Move!” Song Wei kicked the man in the back.
The doctor, a middle-aged man, instinctively stepped aside as he heard her. The man, let out a yell and his large body ran forward uncontrollably, crashing into the wall with a loud bang.
The crash made everyone in the room wince.
“That girl wasn’t lying about having a lot of strength.”
“She doesn’t look it, but this thin city girl sure is tough.”
Some of the older women, enjoying the drama, stared at the fallen man, pointing and gossiping.
“That man’s just all show, no substance.”
“And that old woman said her son was backing her up. Well, he’s on the ground now, what a disgrace.”
The old woman, now concerned about her son, rushed over, crying hysterically.
The man’s pregnant wife also rushed over, walking quickly.
