Song Jing initially intended to assist his sister, but after glancing in her direction, he silently decided otherwise.
At that moment, Song Wei was like the god of death, her fair fists pounding relentlessly on the wild boar.
She hadn’t even used the machete strapped to her waist.
The wild boar struggled desperately, its four legs flailing like afterimages.
Despite its massive size, it couldn’t budge Song Wei’s petite frame in the slightest. Instead, its tusks were broken off by her bare hands, its jaw crushed, and its eyes bloodied from her blows.
Song Jing thought: I’d better help the others; my sister’s a bit terrifying right now.
With Song Jing’s help, the villagers quickly killed another wild boar.
By the time reinforcements from the other search teams arrived, the boar being pummeled by Song Wei let out one final scream before collapsing to the ground, never to rise again.
The villagers gasped in unison, their eyes filled with a mix of fear and awe as they looked at Song Wei.
“Dear heavens, is Song Zhiqing a reincarnated war god?”
How could someone so small and delicate possess such immense strength? She had killed a 200-pound wild boar with her bare hands.
The sight left an indelible impression on everyone.
“Good thing I’ve never crossed Song Zhiqing. If she can kill a boar like this, what would happen to my bones if she punched me?”
With the three adult boars dead, the five piglets were captured alive.
“Su Fang is having miscarrying! Quick, get the village doctor!”
Now that the wild boar threat was eliminated, another crisis emerged.
Su Fang, the pregnant woman, was bleeding profusely after being pushed to the ground. Terrified and injured, she was now too weak to cry out.
“What doctor? Useless woman! Can’t even protect a child. Our family must’ve been cursed for eight lifetimes to end up with a daughter-in-law like you. Get a midwife right now!”
The sharp, grating voice of the elderly woman pierced through the air.
“If anything happens to my grandson, don’t think you’ll get away with it!”
A man chimed in, his voice filled with disgust. “What a jinx of a woman! You nearly got me killed by that boar, and now the child’s in danger. What use are you?”
Nearby, someone tried to intervene.
“Shouldn’t we get the village doctor? If something happens, it’ll be too late!”
But the old woman dismissed the suggestion harshly. “Having a baby is always risky! She’s just being dramatic. We’ve all given birth at home without any doctor! Besides, the village doctor is a man. How could we let him see her? She’d be ruined!”
Song Wei, her face still smeared with blood, approached with a cold expression. Her intimidating presence was enough to part the crowd.
“She’s a Zhiqing (educated youth)?” Song Wei asked, crouching to examine Su Fang.
An older Zhiqing quickly confirmed.
“Yes, she’s Su Zhiqing.”
Song Wei recalled what Li Juan had mentioned earlier-the girl who had been set up.
Without hesitation, she stood and delivered a swift kick to the man’s stomach, sending him flying.
The crowd froze, stunned by her sudden action.
“What are you doing?!” the old woman shrieked.
Song Wei lifted Su Fang into her arms.
“Our educated youth gets treated like this, and you expect me to stay quiet? That scumbag pushed her off the stool and left her to almost get killed by the boar. Does he even deserve to be called a man?”
Without waiting for a response, she ran toward the village doctor, Su Fang in her arms.
Song Jing quickly followed, and though exhausted, Gao Le and Zhao Su hurried after them.
The other educated youth exchanged uneasy glances. Luo Yecheng muttered, “I’ll head back and update the female educated youths.”
He had no intention of running around; all he wanted was to rest.
Song Wei wrapped her coat around Su Fang, her pace unaffected by the added weight.
As Song Jing caught up, she instructed, “Go to Lin Zhen and bring some ginseng roots. Quickly!”
Su Fang’s condition was critical, and the wild ginseng might be her only chance.
Song Jing nodded and dashed away.
Song Wei reached the village barefoot doctor’s home and woke him. He grumbled about being disturbed but immediately got to work upon seeing Su Fang.
“She’s experiencing a miscarriage with severe bleeding and malnutrition. I can’t handle this.”
The barefoot doctor was honest about his limitations. “I’m only trained for minor ailments, not something this serious.”
“Is there any way to keep her alive until help arrives?”
The doctor wiped his brow nervously. “Yes, with long-aged wild ginseng-but I don’t have any.”
Song Wei frowned. “Then we wait for my brother.”
Song Jing sprinted to Lin Zhen’s home and explained the situation. Without hesitation, Lin Zhen handed him the entire fresh ginseng.
Back at the doctor’s house, the Brigade leader had arrived.
“The ginseng’s here,” Song Jing announced.
Song Wei handed it to the doctor, who gasped at the sight. “This will do! Two roots are enough.”
Carefully, he cut two roots and placed them in Su Fang’s mouth.
Once Su Fang’s condition stabilized, Lin Zhen and Heidan arrived.
“What do we do now? Take her to the town hospital? But the bumpy cart ride might kill her.”
Lin Zhen spoke up. “I know someone who can help, but it’ll require the brigade leader’s approval.”
The mysterious individuals living in the cowshed had never mingled with the villagers, and their identities were unknown.
The leader, seeing the urgency, agreed immediately.
Inside the cowshed, old man Ji was startled by the sudden commotion.
After hearing the situation, he sighed and reluctantly retrieved his treasured silver needles.
One hour later, Su Fang’s bleeding had stopped, and her condition had significantly improved.
The barefoot doctor looked at old man Ji with awe, as if he were a divine healer.
Old man Ji wiped his brow. “Her life is saved, but she’ll need to visit the hospital to remove the dead fetus.”
