A week later.
Feng Yuan stared at their chat log, which was completely empty except for messages from a week ago. He gritted his teeth, grinding them as if drawing blood.
“Gong Ze, you have some fucking nerve!”
He really dared to ignore him.
Feng Yuan’s face was so dark it looked like it might drip water. Behind him, resentment churned, nearly solidifying. He grabbed his car keys and stormed out of the house.
Feng Yuan’s father, who was home on vacation, heard the door slam and looked up from in front of the TV. He asked his wife beside him in confusion, “Did that kid swallow gunpowder? Who provoked him now? He’s not going out to start a fight, is he?”
Feng Yuan’s mother leaned forward, trying to see out the door, worry on her face. “I don’t know. He’s been moping around the house all week, not looking happy at all. He seemed so cheerful when he went out to play before.”
“He’s not really going out to fight, is he…”
Mother Feng was scared.
She knew that when Feng Yuan was a child, his temper had been like an explosive barrel. He wouldn’t bully others, but if anyone dared bully him, Feng Yuan would make everyone’s life a living hell.
Even dogs passing by would get beaten up.
What kind of Omega was that?
Father Feng immediately sat up straight, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He quickly took out his phone. “I’ll call the Jiang family kid and ask.”
When Jiang Lin’an got the call from Father Feng asking if Feng Yuan had had any conflicts with anyone in their circle recently, he immediately understood what Feng Yuan was up to.
That day on the mountain, Gong Ze had never contacted Feng Yuan again.
And what about Feng Yuan?
The young master, high and mighty, had finally found a little dog he liked. But because of his temper, he was still as fierce with him as usual.
He had yelled, “Get lost! Who wants you anyway!” with all the authority he could muster.
But this little dog wasn’t like the people who usually came crawling, desperate for the young master’s favor.
Plus, Jiang Lin’an could also see that Gong Ze was an honest person, a bit stubborn at that.
In Gong Ze’s mind, that probably meant they’d had a falling out and were going their separate ways from now on.
‘Get lost?’
‘Oh. Okay, I’m gone.’
And so the honest Alpha had turned around and run off.
Feng Yuan had expected Gong Ze to apologize first? Little did he know, in Gong Ze’s mind, they weren’t even involved anymore.
Jiang Lin’an quickly deduced his friend’s embarrassing predicament. Suppressing a smile, he reassured Father Feng.
“It’s nothing, Uncle Feng. I know what’s going on. He didn’t get into a fight with anyone. I’ll go find him right now.”
And also go see the young master make a fool of himself.
Hehe~
“Good, good, good. Thank you so much.”
“You’re too kind, Uncle Feng.”
After hanging up, Jiang Lin’an immediately dialed Feng Yuan’s number.
“Hey, buddy, where are you?”
There was silence on the other end for a moment. Just as Jiang Lin’an was starting to get confused, wondering if the signal was bad and about to ask again, Feng Yuan’s faint voice came through the phone…
“I’m right outside my neighborhood.”
Jiang Lin’an was stunned. “What? I thought you were going to find Gong Ze.”
The young master had finally grown a backbone? He used to be so straightforward. ‘You piss me off, I go to your house and beat you up.’ Why the hesitation this time?
Feng Yuan was silent for a moment, then squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth. “…I was going to find him. But I don’t fucking know where he lives!!”
Jiang Lin’an: “…”
Just now, Feng Yuan had stormed out of the house, furious, ready to track Gong Ze down. But after getting in the car, the young master was lost.
Hmm?
Where to?
Targeting… Targeting failed.
But since he’d already driven out of the house, going back would be like tucking his tail between his legs. His pride stung. Feng Yuan: …Fuck!
Jiang Lin’an was speechless for a moment, then burst into wild laughter.
“Hahaha, are you serious? Didn’t you ever ask?”
Feng Yuan’s handsome, stoic face flushed red and green by turns. “…Shut up. When I was with him, I was too busy looking at his face. I forgot about it later.”
Now that Gong Ze had cut off contact unilaterally, unless Feng Yuan had someone track him down, he really didn’t know where to find him.
Jiang Lin’an chuckled as he walked out the door and got into his car. “Why don’t you just send him a message and ask?”
Feng Yuan: “??? And he would actually tell me??”
He was going to go find him, right? Gong Ze would be too busy hiding to send his address.
Jiang Lin’an smiled. “Who knows? It’s worth a shot, and it’s free. It’ll be faster than sitting around waiting for someone to track him down.”
With anyone else, maybe not. But with that sweet, dopey Alpha, it was hard to say.
“…Fine.”
Jiang Lin’an convinced Feng Yuan.
Feng Yuan put the call on speaker, then exited the call and opened his chat window with Gong Ze. He typed in a hard, commanding tone.
I’m coming to find you. Send me your address.
Feng Yuan hadn’t expected anything from it. He scoffed. Who wouldn’t pick up on his accusatory tone? No one in their right mind would tell him.
But within two minutes, he was slapped in the face.
The salted fish Alpha replied slowly.
Oh.
I’m not home right now. If you want to find me, come to this street: [Address].
Feng Yuan saw the address and his brows furrowed into a knot. He typed coldly.
Do you think I’m stupid? That’s the address of a shopping mall. You’re there? Who are you trying to fool?
Gong Ze: ……
Gong Ze: ……I’m not lying. I’m working. Gotta go.
After that, no matter how many messages, video calls, or voice calls Feng Yuan sent, he didn’t answer.
Feng Yuan was so angry he punched the steering wheel.
His face twisted as he talked to himself. “Fine. I’ll go. If you’re lying to me, you’re dead!”
Vroom—
The beautiful luxury car sped off, leaving only dust in its wake.
Meanwhile, on the other side…
The arm of a large Bear Brown costume was pulled back, revealing a human hand holding a phone that had just been turned off. The hand struggled to retreat into the costume, shoved the phone back into its pocket, and then the arm was reinserted into the costume. Bear Brown, now fully dressed again, picked up a stack of flyers from the bench and slowly handed them out to passersby on the street.
Next to him stood Bear Blonde. Seeing that the zipper on the back of Bear Brown’s costume was undone, Bear Blonde stepped forward and patted Bear Brown on the shoulder.
But the person inside forgot that his head was now huge. When he turned around, his large bear head bumped into Bear Blonde, sending him stumbling back several meters.
“Hahaha!”
The children gathered around them laughed heartily, and the parents with them also smiled.
Gu Xiangyu, inside the Bear Blonde costume, had nearly been knocked over by Gong Ze in the Bear Brown costume, but he wasn’t angry. Instead, he suppressed a laugh, stepped forward, and gently pointed to the zipper on the back of Gong Ze’s costume.
“Don’t move. Let me zip it up for you.”
“Thanks. Sorry about that.”
Gong Ze’s voice was muffled through the costume.
“It’s nothing. These heads block our vision.”
Gu Xiangyu smiled and zipped him up.
Gong Ze silently nodded at him.
The two of them continued handing out flyers at the mall entrance. It wasn’t incredibly hot today, at least not for people wearing regular clothes. But inside the costume, the two of them were drenched in sweat, as if they had been washed in water.
When their boss came to tell them they could take a break, the two of them finally sat down on the bench, removed their headgear, and breathed a sigh of relief.
Both of them had hair wetter than the other’s, and almost every inch of exposed skin was covered in beads of sweat.
Gu Xiangyu unscrewed a bottle of water and handed it to Gong Ze beside him. Watching Gong Ze drink, he once again marveled at his coworker’s appearance.
The two chatted idly.
“Just now, I saw you seemed to be replying to someone. Was it your son?”
Gu Xiangyu asked curiously.
Gong Ze shook his head. “No. It was my former boss…”
Gu Xiangyu: “Your boss? Asking you to come back? Could you bring me along? I feel like we get along really well. It’s fine if you can’t. Where’s your old boss’s shop? I’ll come visit you when I’m free.”
Hearing this, the man who didn’t talk much had a look on his face as if he wanted to say something but was holding back.
“My former boss… he has a bad temper. And that job isn’t suitable for you.”
The job was being kept.
And the sugar daddy was like a powder keg.
Gong Ze looked at Gu Xiangyu with concern. He didn’t want to lead him astray.
Gu Xiangyu didn’t read the complexity in Gong Ze’s gaze. As soon as he heard that, he quickly said, “A bad temper? That won’t do! You’re so honest and quiet. You’ll definitely be bullied. Is that why you changed jobs? Because he was always exploiting you? Then don’t go back. It’s a trap!”
Gong Ze nodded. “Yeah. I don’t want to go back either.”
He couldn’t really understand Feng Yuan.
He didn’t know why he was happy, why he was angry, why he suddenly turned on him.
Omegas were so hard to understand…
Gong Ze thought seriously.
Gu Xiangyu found it really amusing to watch him sit there, mulling things over with a blank expression.
Gu Xiangyu and Gong Ze had met two days earlier.
At that time, Gong Ze had told the female manager of the café that he wouldn’t be working there anymore, but then his sugar daddy had dumped him almost immediately.
Even though Gong Ze was dull and slow, he still had enough pride to be embarrassed to go back.
So, in order to avoid having to eat instant noodles with his son, he started looking for work.
That was when he happened to run into Gu Xiangyu, who had transmigrated half a month earlier.
Gu Xiangyu had originally been from Earth, a university professor. During a lecture, just by refuting a student’s question about whether humanity might evolve into an ABO society in the future, he had inexplicably transmigrated into this ABO world.
After transmigrating, just learning the basic physiology of the world had nearly fried his CPU.
A few days earlier, he had accidentally walked into the wrong restroom and had been screamed at and cursed out by a male Omega who thought he was a pervert. Gu Xiangyu had been so scared that he’d fled and hadn’t dared use a public restroom for a long time.
After that, he had holed up in the original owner’s tiny shared apartment and started frantically learning about this world through the internet.
He dyed his hair back to black, changed out of his clothes covered in holes and metal accessories into normal pants and a shirt, and realized he was desperately poor and a high school dropout.
The tragic Professor Gu could only silently go out and try to earn some pocket money.
Neither of them had any education, so they could only work odd jobs.
And that was how they met.
Although Gong Ze spoke very little, being around him made Professor Gu feel as if he were back on Earth. Gong Ze didn’t look at him as an Alpha or a Beta or anything like that. He looked at him more as a fellow male.
There wasn’t all that messy gender differentiation.
There wasn’t that Alpha-on-Alpha animosity either.
So the gentle Professor Gu and the silent Gong Ze had become good friends.
They had been working odd jobs together for the past few days.
Gu Xiangyu even knew that Gong Ze had a son he wasn’t related to by blood, and that the son had just been moved from the ICU to a regular room and was about to be discharged from the hospital.
“Hey, after work, let’s go to the market together. We can get cheap vegetables. It’s way cheaper than ordering takeout.”
Gu Xiangyu said cheerfully to Gong Ze. “It’s fine if you don’t know how to cook. I can do it. I’ll make it, and you can pack some in a container and take it home for the kid.”
Hearing this, Gong Ze looked at his warm-hearted new friend, and the corner of his mouth curled up slightly. “I…”
“GONG ZE!”
Just as Gong Ze was about to nod and thank Gu Xiangyu, a tall, dark figure shrouded in a menacing aura appeared in front of them, looking down at the two ‘bears.’
Seeing Gong Ze’s forehead drenched in sweat, his hair soaked through, his ridiculous costume, and the flyers, Feng Yuan’s brows furrowed tightly. The words came out of his mouth in a rapid-fire torrent, not giving either of them a chance to react.
“This is the job you were talking about? You’re doing this?! You’d rather do this than be with me??!!!”
