Marrying the Infertile Officer, Winning Effortlessly in the Seventies with a Pregnancy System Chapter 322: “Sir, guess what’s inside.”

When Father Lin and Lin Chushi heard this, they were completely stunned.

No way.

That group of drug lords was actually hiding on Huansha Island—and they had been caught by Chen Han and Sheng Zexi.

Then… what was the point of them being here?

The expressions on the father and son’s faces immediately darkened.

Commander Lu nodded, his gaze toward Sheng Zexi and Chen Han full of satisfaction.

He had always known that Old Sheng’s son couldn’t possibly be unreliable—not when the man himself had vouched for him.

And he had chosen to believe in them.

Later, when Chen Han and Sheng Zexi mentioned that the drug lords had planted bombs on Huansha Island and set timers, the hearts of everyone present clenched in fear.

By then, their subordinates had begun returning one after another.

A box was carried forward.

“These are the bombs planted by the drug lords on Huansha Island. There are over thirty in total.”

“All of them were set to detonate at midnight tonight.”

“Many were buried in crowded areas.”

“But now, we’ve found and disarmed every single one.”

“Officer Lu, Sheng Zexi’s dogs were incredibly helpful-even more skilled than our military K9 units. It was his dogs that located all these bombs.”

Chen Han spoke excitedly about this.

Meanwhile, Sheng Zexi’s gaze subtly drifted toward Lin Chushi and his father.

“Luckily, we disarmed these bombs in time. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable. Don’t you agree, Brigade Commander Lin?”

The moment Sheng Zexi said this, the expressions of Lin Chushi and his father turned even uglier.

Lin Chushi, in particular, looked grim.

He wasn’t stupid—he could tell Sheng Zexi was referring to his refusal to authorize troop deployment that afternoon.

Now, Lin Chushi was filled with regret.

He never would have guessed that military intelligence had failed to uncover the drug lords hiding on Huansha Island.

Worse, they had planted so many bombs.

Over thirty bombs, scattered across the island, set to explode at midnight—and they had no clue.

If not for Sheng Zexi’s intervention, they wouldn’t have known until the bombs went off.

Huansha Island could have been destroyed.

Countless civilians would have been killed or injured.

Lin Chushi wasn’t particularly concerned about civilian casualties.

But if the island and its people suffered such a disaster, the military would undoubtedly face severe punishment.

The thought made him break out in a cold sweat.

In a way, Sheng Zexi had helped them avert a major crisis.

But…

Lin Chushi felt not an ounce of gratitude toward Sheng Zexi.

Instead, he resented him.

If Sheng Zexi had been so certain the drug lords were on Huansha Island and had even discovered the bombs, why hadn’t he reported it directly to him or his father?

Why had he bypassed the chain of command and gone straight to Commander Lu?

He had snatched the credit for himself.

Lin Chushi knew full well how dangerous this group of drug lords was—and how significant the achievement of capturing them would be.

But right now, he also knew this wasn’t the time to dwell on that.

He forced a stiff smile, his words sounding as if they were being squeezed through gritted teeth.

“Well, I simply hadn’t received any intel.”

“If I had known, I would’ve ordered their capture immediately.” Lin Chushi tried to justify himself.

Sheng Zexi raised an eyebrow slightly, the curve of his lips carrying a hint of mockery.

“In that case, may I ask, Brigade Commander Lin—does this count as misuse of military resources?”

Lin Chushi: Does Sheng Zexi really have to keep harping on this?

“Of course not. Naturally, it doesn’t count,” Lin Chushi gritted out through clenched teeth.

But then, what was the point of him and his father waiting here until midnight?

Right now, Lin Chushi felt like a complete fool.

And his resentment toward Sheng Zexi only grew stronger.

Before, it was just jealousy—because Sheng Zexi was the man his young wife had once loved.

But now? Now it was pure hatred.

At the same time, he couldn’t help but think how lucky Sheng Zexi was.

How did those drug lords just happen to be hiding on Huansha Island?

And how did they happen to find the timed bombs the criminals had planted?

Allowing Chen Han and Sheng Zexi to take all the credit.

Damn luck. Unbelievable luck.

Lin Chushi glanced at his father.

Old Lin’s expression wasn’t looking too great either.

When their eyes met, his father gave him a cold look—one filled with unmistakable reproach.

Of course, he wasn’t blaming Lin Chushi for refusing to approve the operation earlier.

No, he was furious that Sheng Zexi and the others had turned the tables on them.

Now, with things like this, how was he supposed to pull Commander Lu down from his position?

Useless fool!

“Haha, so it was all just a misunderstanding!” Old Lin forced a laugh.

“It’s fine. As long as things are cleared up now.”

Despite his internal fury, he still spoke with a smile.

His son might be an idiot, but he was his idiot. He had to protect him.

Neither Chen Han nor Sheng Zexi responded.

Even Commander Lu remained silent.

Honestly, Lin Chushi’s mistake wasn’t that major—but it wasn’t minor either.

At worst, his refusal to authorize the operation could be considered a delay in military action, potentially causing massive casualties. That would warrant severe punishment.

At best, he could argue he simply hadn’t been informed—and since disaster was ultimately averted, maybe he could get off lightly.

In the end, Commander Lu settled on a punishment that was neither too harsh nor too lenient.

A formal reprimand—on his record.

Lin Chushi hadn’t expected to get disciplined for this.

He wanted to argue, but one look at his father’s expression made him swallow his protests.

Old Lin knew Commander Lu was actually going easy on his son.

If they really wanted to push it, the consequences would be far worse.

But that didn’t stop him from seething inside.

So, Commander Lu had known all along what was really going on.

He set a trap for us.

Cunning. Absolutely cunning!

“Alright, it’s late. We’ll wrap this up for now and go over the details tomorrow,” Commander Lu announced.

“Wait, sir! There’s something else—something very important!” Chen Han quickly stopped him before he could leave.

Just then, the soldiers carrying the large boxes arrived.

Commander Lu and the others stared at the containers in surprise.

“What’s this?” Commander Lu asked, puzzled.

“Sir, you have no idea—Sheng Zexi’s dog, Leiting, is incredible.”

“Just when we thought we’d found all the bombs, Leiting still detected something else on Huansha Island…”

Chen Han launched into a vivid retelling of the events.

“…And sure enough, we fished out dozens of these huge crates from the seabed.”

“These crates were left behind when the R-country army retreated!”

“What?!”

Both Commander Lu and the Lin father-son duo were stunned.

Left behind by the R-country military?

Then what could possibly be inside?

“Sir, care to guess what’s in these?” Chen Han teased, deliberately dragging out the suspense—and shooting a smug glance at the Lin family.

Hah. This achievement is going to make you green with envy.
