The Sheng Family.
Fang Wanrong hadn’t left the house today.
She had been waiting anxiously at home, filled with anticipation.
She knew the traffickers would make their move in the next couple of days.
If they hadn’t acted yesterday, then it would be today.
She was eagerly waiting for those two little brats to be kidnapped.
She also longed to see Sheng Xinhao’s devastated and heartbroken expression.
She even wished Sheng Zexi were in the capital right now, just so she could witness his despair. She imagined how satisfying that would feel.
The more Fang Wanrong thought about it, the more madness crept into her eyes.
As she waited, she suddenly heard footsteps outside.
Had Sheng Xinhao returned?
Fang Wanrong immediately stood up, wanting to witness Sheng Xinhao’s panic and desperation firsthand.
But when she stepped out and saw the two children holding Sheng Xinhao’s hands, she froze in shock.
She couldn’t even control herself and exclaimed, “How could this be?!”
How could this be?!
The children hadn’t been kidnapped—instead, Sheng Xinhua had brought them back.
Realizing she had lost her composure, Fang Wanrong quickly adjusted her expression, forcing a smile as she prepared to speak.
But when she looked up, she met Sheng Xinhao’s icy gaze.
“How could this be?”
“Fang Wanrong, what exactly are you trying to say?”
“Are you asking why they weren’t kidnapped by the traffickers you hired?”
The moment Sheng Xinhao said this, Fang Wanrong’s eyes widened in terror as she stared at him.
Her heart raced with panic.
She was so flustered that she couldn’t even control her facial expressions.
For a brief moment, her face twisted unnaturally before she managed to regain her composure.
After a long pause, Fang Wanrong forced herself to stay calm. “Lao Sheng, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“By the way, why did you bring two children back?”
“Whose kids are these? They’re quite adorable.”
Sheng Xinhao watched Fang Wanrong’s rapid change in demeanor and realized for the first time that the gentle, considerate, and kind-hearted wife he had always known was nothing more than a facade.
The real her was cunning and ruthless—someone who could collaborate with human traffickers and target innocent children.
“Fang Wanrong, I never knew you were such a skilled actress.”
“I’ve been fooled by you all this time.”
“In the past, did you also use that innocent face and gentle words to make me misunderstand Zexi over and over again?”
“Back then, your goal was to ruin my relationship with Zexi. Now, you’re targeting his two children.”
“Why?!”
“Fang Wanrong, you’re a mother too. When you found out Xiao Rui had been switched, you hated the traffickers just as much as anyone else!”
“How could you now work with them to kidnap Xingxing and Yueyue?”
“They’re just children! What grudge could you possibly hold against them to do something like this?!” By the end, Sheng Xinhao’s voice was almost a roar.
Fang Wanrong stumbled back in fear.
She finally understood.
Sheng Xinhao already knew what she had done.
He knew she had conspired with traffickers to kidnap those two children.
No—she couldn’t admit it.
If she did, everything would be over for her.
So she quickly put on a pitiful and innocent act. “Sheng Xinhao, I’ve been married to you for so many years. You know how I’ve treated you all this time.”
“In your eyes, am I really that kind of person?”
Her gaze was full of disappointment toward Sheng Xinhao.
In the past, Sheng Xinhao might have fallen for this act.
But not anymore.
Sheng Xinhao found this side of Fang Wanrong utterly terrifying.
“Even now, you still refuse to admit it.”
“The traffickers have already been caught—and they named you.”
“Not just that!”
“Did you really think no one saw you meeting with them in secret?”
“Not only did my people see it, but even your own daughter witnessed it!”
“Do you think everyone is blind?!”
What?!
Fang Wanrong’s face paled as she finally noticed Fang Manping standing in the corner, having followed them in.
Fang Manping slowly raised her head, her eyes filled with tears as she stared at Fang Wanrong.
She didn’t need to say a word—Fang Wanrong already understood.
What Sheng Xinhao said was true.
So the plan she thought was flawless, the one she believed no one knew about… had actually been discovered by so many people?
Which meant…
They had been waiting to spring the trap all along?!
Meanwhile, Fang Manping hadn’t expected that her stepfather had known about this much earlier.
That day when she secretly followed her mother…
She wasn’t the only one. Sheng Xinhao’s men had been trailing them too.
He had known everything from the start—every single detail!
At this point, Fang Wanrong also realized the truth.
She knew there was no use pretending anymore.
In an instant, the innocence and fragility on her face vanished, replaced by sharp-edged ruthlessness.
“So, you knew all along!”
“You were just making a fool out of me?”
“Watching me pretend to be innocent after being exposed—you must have thought I was pathetic, right?”
Sheng Xinhua’s eyes were filled with disappointment.
He hadn’t confronted her immediately because he didn’t want to believe it. He had wanted to give her a chance.
But the truth proved that some people never change—no amount of chances would make a difference.
“You asked me why I did it?”
“They’re Sheng Zexi’s children. You’ve been so close to them because you plan to hand over the entire Sheng family to him, don’t you?”
“Then what about me? What have I gotten after all these years with you?!”
“I’ve even lost my only son!”
Fang Wanrong’s voice cracked with grief.
“I’m heartbroken about Xiao Rui too, but that was the doing of the R-country conspirators! What does that have to do with Zexi, Xingxing, or Yueyue?!”
“How could it not?!”
“As long as Sheng Zexi exists, there’s no place for me in this family!”
“All these years, I’ve played the meek, doting wife—shouldn’t I be rewarded for that?”
Tears welled in Fang Wanrong’s eyes, but her gaze toward Sheng Xinhao was full of mockery.
“You accuse me of deceiving you, of ruining your relationship with Sheng Zexi.”
“But have you ever considered that it’s your own fault for not trusting him?”
“If you truly believed in him, no matter what I did, you wouldn’t have been swayed.”
“So don’t pin the blame on me.”
“You claim to have loved Sang Yuwan, yet you married me less than a year after her death.”
“You claim to value Sheng Zexi as your son, yet you distrusted him and pushed him further away step by step.”
Sheng Xinhao took half a step back, his pupils trembling.
Then he closed his eyes.
As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he knew Fang Wanrong was right.
When it came to his relationship with his eldest son…
The biggest mistake had been his own.
He had failed as a father.
And so, he had pushed his son further and further away.
“Now that you know everything I’ve done, how do you plan to deal with me?” Fang Wanrong no longer denied or begged for mercy.
After all these years, she was tired.
