Marrying the Infertile Officer, Winning Effortlessly in the Seventies with a Pregnancy System Chapter 225: “The Child-Giving Guanyin”

Gu Jianing found an angle where neither the doctor nor the nurse could see her and swallowed an All-Toxin Immunity pill and a Restoration Pill.

As soon as she took them—perhaps due to the effects of the Restoration Pill—she felt her body lighten significantly. She even thought she could get up and walk right then.

However, not wanting to startle the medical staff, she restrained herself and stayed still.

By then, the nurse had finished tidying up and wheeled her out.

“Ningning, how are you?” The moment Gu Jianing was pushed out, she saw Sheng Zexi waiting anxiously at the delivery room door.

“I’m okay,” Gu Jianing smiled, her eyes glowing with maternal warmth. “By the way, have you seen the babies yet?”

“I have,” Sheng Zexi replied, relieved to see her in good spirits.

“Ningning, the babies are right here,” Yao Chunhua and Grandma Sang approached, each holding a newborn, their eyes scanning Gu Jianing’s condition.

As they spoke, Gu Jianing was wheeled into a regular ward. The doctor and nurses gave some post-delivery instructions before leaving.

“Ningning, look the older one is the brother, the younger one is the sister. Aren’t they beautiful? So fair and tender,” Yao Chunhua and Grandma Sang cooed as they brought the babies closer.

Gu Jianing gazed at the two fair-skinned infants in their swaddling clothes and reached out to gently touch them. At that moment, the older baby—the little boy—seemed to sense his mother’s presence.

He wriggled a tiny hand free from the blanket and, though his eyes were still shut, managed to grasp Gu Jianing’s finger with surprising accuracy.

The moment his tiny fingers closed around hers, Gu Jianing froze.

He held on with all his might, refusing to let go.

Through that tiny, soft grip, Gu Jianing could feel his warmth and the strength he exerted—as though he were telling her, his mother: Mom, I’m here.

Her eyes welled up with tears, threatening to spill over.

“My babies… these are my babies…”

She had longed for them across two lifetimes, and now, she finally held children of her own flesh and blood.

This was real. So wonderfully real.

“System, thank you. Truly, thank you,” Gu Jianing whispered inwardly, feeling that no words could fully express her gratitude.

The system had granted her rebirth and the precious gift of motherhood.

[Host, no need to thank me!]

[Also, the babies are absolutely adorable!]

Gu Jianing smiled. Yes, they really were.

“Oh dear, you mustn’t cry during your confinement month—it’ll ruin your eyesight. You’ve been blessed with twins; this is a time for joy!” Yao Chunhua fretted the moment she saw her daughter’s reddened eyes.

“Mom, I know. I’m just happy. So happy.”

“Of course you are. Who wouldn’t be over such a pair of lovely twins?”

“Exactly, we’re all overjoyed,” Grandma Sang chimed in.

Just then, the two newborns began to cry.

Gu Jianing panicked. “Why are they crying?”

“They’re probably hungry. You rest now. Mother-in-law and I will feed them formula,” Yao Chunhua reassured her.

Relieved, Gu Jianing nodded.

Yao Chunhua and Grandma Sang each took a baby to prepare bottles of formula.

Meanwhile, Sheng Zexi approached Gu Jianing’s bedside, took her hand, and pressed it against his cheek. His eyes brimmed with tenderness. “Darling, you’ve worked so hard.”

Gu Jianing stroked his face gently. “If you know how hard it was, you’d better treat me even better from now on.”

Gu Jianing would never say things like “It wasn’t hard” or “It was my duty.”

She wanted Sheng Zexi to feel her pain, to remember her suffering, so he would cherish her even more in the future.

“Mm, I will. I swear.” Even without her saying a word, Sheng Zexi had already resolved to treat her well for the rest of his life.

In his heart, Gu Jianing mattered more than he did himself.

She was irreplaceable.

The news that Dr. Gu had given birth to twins in just half an hour quickly spread throughout the military district.

Now, everyone in the district regarded Gu Jianing as a woman of great fortune—some even called her the “Child-Giving Guanyin.”

Just look—couples who had struggled with infertility for years were now conceiving one after another.

And Dr. Gu herself had delivered a pair of twins.

Wasn’t that a blessing? Wasn’t she practically the embodiment of the “Child-Giving Guanyin”?

Some people had once thought Gu Jianing was spoiled, especially since Deputy Commander Sheng seemed to dote on her, even taking on most of the household chores.

They’d frowned upon it.

But now? A doctor so capable, so blessed—why shouldn’t she be pampered?

If Deputy Commander Sheng was happy to spoil her, who were they to judge? They’d probably do the same.

After three days in the hospital, Gu Jianing decided it was time to return home to the family quarters.

Those three days had been filled with visits from well-wishers eager to see her and the twins. Though their enthusiasm was heartwarming, it left her with little rest.

Going home was the better option.

Back in the capital, on the day the twins were born, Grandma Sang had called her husband to share the joyous news.

Grandpa Sang was over the moon, his face lit up with delight.

“Twins—a boy and a girl! How wonderful! If only our A-Wan were still here… She’d be so happy to see them.”

“Yes, if A-Wan could see Xiao Xi settled with a family of his own, she’d be overjoyed.”

Meanwhile, Yao Chunhua had also called the family back in Huaihua Village to announce the good news.

The Gu family was ecstatic.

For days afterward, Old Man Gu walked around beaming, prompting curious villagers to ask why.

When they learned Gu Jianing had given birth to twins, they showered the Gu family with congratulations, marveling at her incredible luck.

Anyone who could safely deliver twins had to be blessed.

When she found the time, Gu Jianing fed the babies Intelligence-Boosting Pills, Body-Strengthening Pills, and All-Toxin Immunity Pills.

She’d never have dared to do this if the system hadn’t assured her the pills were completely natural and free of side effects.

On the day they returned home, the twins finally opened their eyes—big, round, and bright. One pair resembled Sheng Zexi’s sharp phoenix eyes, the other Gu Jianing’s soft almond ones. Both were beautiful.

Lately, however, Deputy Commander Sheng had been unusually busy.

With what?

Diapers.

With the two elderly women busy caring for the newborns and Gu Jianing’s postpartum recovery, household chores—including diaper duty—fell entirely to Sheng Zexi.

So when someone happened to pass by the family quarters, they were startled to see the esteemed deputy commander bent over a washbasin, scrubbing away at a pile of tiny cloth diapers.
